My lower back is KILLING me this afternoon. Not even the yoga ball is helping! Like six people I've talked to at work have said "Oh no, that means you're going to have back labor."

Any truth to that statement? I'm guessing it's on par with "you're carrying high, it must be a girl" or other similar "advice," but I thought I'd ask the experts here.

I think if back pain at the end of pregnancy = back labor, EVERYONE would have back labor. Back labor is all about positioning... if you are concerned about helping her position herself correctly, check out the spinning babies website

Dawn, mama to D (3.06) & N (9.07) C (11.09) & Still-in-shock surprise due in Aug!

Yes, this. I did not have back labour with my daughter, but I had a lot of lower back pain later in my pregnancy. Chiropractor helped get rid of that.

As others have said, no. I would definitely schedule a visit or to with a chiro, though, if you're having pain because the better aligned you are, the better the baby will be able to get into positon.

Also, double check your posture. I've noticed a definite change in the way I'm standing and walking the last few weeks and it's putting a lot more strain on muscles that aren't used to it (and probably shouldn't be!)

Yes, back labor is about the baby facing posterior when you go into labor, not how much stress being pregnant is putting on your lower back during pregnancy. My chiro really helped with my back and hip pain. The chiro will help with alignment and encouraging the baby to be in a good posture. But maybe your baby is facing the ideal way already - which is facing inward toward your back. Mine is still rotating daily.
