I woke at 11:45 to a trickle last night. More came out since, but never a gush. No doubt it was the waters. About an hour later, started having contrax, not bad though. Got a ton of bloody show and the leaking turned pink. Midwife came at 4:30. Baby still "ballable??" so some water still left and baby is high. I am still thick and only a finger tip dilated.

I was able to go back to sleep, as the contrax are mostly so weak. What does not make sense to me is that they are stronger when lying down, but get weaker or stall out altogether when I am active.

Any tips????????????? If the contrax are stronger lying down, should I keep doing that? But don't I need to be doing things to get gravity to get the baby's head lower?

Oh, forgot to say edd is thurs.

Guess I am doing this update thing right???

I read the first few posts here, thanks. Went for a walk had little weak contractions, came in and got on the exercise ball and suddenly at 10am started in on some powerful ones. Midwife came again at 2:15pm, checked. I was 3 and effaced. 3:25 started pushing!!! She was born at 3:37pm after a scary bad shoulder dyscosia (sp) I had to get out of the birth pool with her head hanging out between my legs and get on my hands and knees, it was still tough to push her out after that, but she instantly pinked up and was fine. After one episiotomy that I tore past and another birth where I tore horribly in 3 directions- no tears!

Raeya McKenna 9lb 10oz 21 in. (her brothers were 10#4 and 11#1 and had no stuck shoulders.)

I think I'd try getting up and go walking or something for a while and see what happens.

Do you have stairs that you could walk? I found walking up and down stairs helped get the baby lower faster then just walking.

Find a happy medium. You don't want to tire yourself out walking around all day but you definitely want to remain active. Rest a little (though I imagine if they are more intense when lying down you don't rest much) but try a little of both. Do you have a birth/exercise ball?

I have had two of my labors begin this way. It will happen. Just do your normal day and go for a walk if you feel like it, but like others have said, don't tire yourself. You may also want to try some accupuncture. With my third baby I was going into the second night of having leaking water and my accupuncturist neighbor came over and gave me two treatments about 90 minutes apart. My baby was born 2.5 hours after the second treatment.

I say listen to your body, if your body says move around then move around if your body says you need rest then rest. Exhaustion is the worst enemy of a laboring women. Your body will know what you need to do.

I've also heard that a lot of light contractions and stop/start labor patterns can be a sign of a poor positon. Maybe you could take a look at spinningbabies.com or another fetal positioning site.
