Maxwell William finally decided to arrive on December 11th at 41 weeks. He was born at 9:50pm after a very intense and quick labor mostly in the birth tub. He was born in the water and my water never broke so he was born inside his amniotic sac! He was 8lbs even and 20" long which is 3oz less than our biggest baby (baby #2), so he seems good size to us. He's got such a soft fuzzy head that I just can't quit kissing.

I literally went from 4cm to pushing him out 2 contractions later which I didn't even know was possible. I was very glad to avoid a bad tear like I had with my 2nd baby, I only have just a minor superficial tear that should heal up fine with some rest. Compared to my other births (#1 was a terrible 27 hr hospital induction, #2 was a intense rapid unplanned UC with a bad tear and then #3 a homebirth turned emergency c/s) I feel pretty much amazing! I didn't actually see him come out because I was on my knees leaning on the side of the tub, but feeling his head emerge with my hand is something that I will carry with me the rest of my life. Wow!

I'm so incredibly grateful that we got the VBAC at home we were so much wanting. Although I ended up being more vocal than I expected and our 5yo dd didn't end up making it in the room in time for the birth, everything else was just about perfect. I wanted a waterbirth so much for both my 2nd and 3rd babies and I'm so glad that I finally got to experience that with the last of our children (or so we think at this point). I'm so happy that I had my amazing midwife and my husband by my side for labor support, I can't tell you how amazing they were. My very close friend took a bunch of great photos right after the birth and stayed late into the night making sure dh & I had snacks and cleaning up. The experience has just been so amazing, truly I cannot even explain the amount of healing it has done for me.

Max is doing wonderfully and starting to wake up and nurse more actively. He is so beautiful and sweet and his big sister and brothers adore him! I'm feeling a bit weepy tonight with the hormonal change of my milk coming in and knowing that he is likely the "last" of my babies but I think eventually I'll be okay with that. I was worried earlier in the pregnancy about having our 3rd boy and about having another child so soon (20 months) after a c/s...but every doubt has been washed away!

I am very excited by caul babies. I'm not sure why, but I find it fascinating. Congrats!

Oh Rebecca, I'm so happy for you! Congratulations!!! Being born in the caul is very rare even for a natural homebirth. Amazing!

Congratulations!!!!

And if you have time for reading, go read the Red Tent (or reread it.) I read it for the first time just after River was born, and it helped me make peace with the end of my baby days, and pregnancy days, and with my only girl... though obviously, sometimes things don't work out like that.

Congratulations! Wow, from 4 cm to pushing so quickly -- that must have been intense.
