Carmen358,
I am sorry your scan did not go as you expected. I find it odd that they did not allow your DH to join you. I have had many over the years, at various places, and never has my DH not been allowed to be with me. I think I would have been livid!

Glad you atleast got to see you LO.

My partner was definitely allowed, that wasn't a problem at all. This particular place (I've been there twice now) just likes to be alone for the first part to take measurements (and I'm guessing to make sure everything is ok before showing us) - even I didn't get to see anything.

And yes, seeing that everything was fine was the most important thing

I hope everyone is doing well! How are you all coping comfortably into the second trimester?

AFM, I have had kind of a low level anxiety for the last two weeks. I cannot put my finger on what I am worried about it. I wouldn't even call it worried. I have a lot of feelings that are very different from my pregnancies before the losses.

I had what I call the "flipping out" feeling today so I scheduled a quick peek ultrasound for tomorrow. I can feel her moving every day and I listen to her heartbeat every day but I NEED to see her. I guess, deep down inside, I still feel like a fraud with this pregnancy. After so many false starts, I guess I feel like this pregnancy is somehow...I don't know the words.... It does not always seem real. I have a strong need to see that there really is a baby still there.

I am trying hard not to wish away the days of this pregnancy. Certainly, this baby is our last. But I just want to be 37 weeks. I usually love being pregnant! I love the process, the homebirth preparations, etc. This time, I just want to get my baby here.

Anyone else??

jrt - hope you can nail down the source of your anxiety soon and squash it!

AFM - we had our Level 2 ultrasound and everything looks good. our Down risk was halved again (from 1:100 to 1:200) and i skipped the amnino and all further genetic testing.

so, from now on i'm just doing my bi-weekly cervical measurements and monthly scheduled appointments with the Ob team.

however, i really have to call the hospital i'm going to deliver at and sign up for some classes and do a tour.

am still here. I have just settled into the monotany of daily life. I had to complete a 3 hr glucose on Friday because I failed the first. Also my thyroid fuction is low so I have to see an endocrinologist. I have fell been feeling really tired and work full tine so I generally rest when I get home. I have yet to have another ultrasound since 8 weeks and am feeling antsy. I think I will have one in mid September. And to top it off my 3.75 year old is acting up

Just got back from my first ultrasound in almost a month. The amniotic fluid has been low for a while now, and each time it keeps looking lower. It was, apparently, very low today. My next scan is in 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to up my levels by then.

Also, I found out the difference a week can make on due dates--apparently, using when I ovulated (about day 22) the baby's growth is at the 40th percentile, while going by the date in my records, the baby's at 22nd percentile. The specialist I saw today seemed slightly less worried when I mentioned how late I tend to ovulated, but still, hopefully the baby starts growing more.

Ugh. I want everything to be just fine and dandy and have no worries.

Emily, did they give you any suggestions or tips for increasing your AFI? I hope your fluid level improves and you can relax.

Thanks. The only things right now are drinking more and resting as much as I can. In 2 weeks, I guess, they might want me in the hospital, I don't know, though...

quick update...

Nothing really new. The size isn't much of an issue, but the fluid level is, well, almost non-existent. The issue seems to be that the placenta is at least partly over the fibroid (but, well, not over the cervix) and so it might not be getting enough to the fetus. There is a chance that things could be better in 2 weeks. Things could be really bad or mostly fine. In the meantime, there's not much I can do but wait...

I'm drinking fluid, resting, and that's about all I can do.

Emily, I'll be praying for you and thinking good thoughts. I hope the 2 weeks goes by quickly!

AFM, I'm doing well. Every once in a while I totally trip out that I'm having a BABY...! duh, right? But it seems surreal, and I really can't wait to be at the end and hold my little guy in my arms. Amy, I know what you mean, I want to treasure the pregnant moments but I sure wouldn't mind fast-fowarding a little!

Laci, is it early to do the blood glucose test? I can't remember when I did it with DS, and it hasn't come up yet in conversation with the midwife. Hope you get good results!

Cat, that's wonderful news! Hope everything goes smoothly from here on out for you.

Thanks. My next ultrasound is in about 2 weeks--actually, sooner, on the 14th. Since dh came with me to the appointment today, he's been doing some research on his own, and he noticed that most cases of lack of amniotic fluid seem to be caused by dehydration, and he pointed out to me that we had a heat wave and quite a few hot days that didn't count as a heat wave, so I've been either sweating or in dry air-conditioning, or both most of the past several weeks. (And he didn't find any links between fibroids and amniotic fluid levels, specifically) So, I'm going to just focus on getting in as much water as I can every day, even if it seems excessive. (And I'm at home with no one but myself to take care of, so it doesn't matter how often I have to go to the bathroom) Hopefully this will work.

That makes a lot of sense. Hopefully by the next u/s you'll be swimming in fluids (or the baby will be at least) Take care!!

Thanks!

I'm just trying to keep positive, as much as I can. It's difficult, though.

Just wanted to update - DP and I went for our regular 5week m/w appointment and got the detailed results of the u/s. Everything is looking a-ok with nothing abnormal or notable showing up at this point. My placenta is posterior and in a good position which apparently is contributing to the amount of movement I'm feeling! This little one is a mover and a shaker already

We asked a lot of questions about our planned homebirth and will be attending an info night a few weeks. We also registered for some "birthing from within" prenatal classes. I am skipping the GD testing and will not have any other u/s or testing unless something comes up.

I feel really good but have to admit I still have moments of doubt that everything is going as well as it seems. They are happening less and less though, which is nice.

It's been quiet around here for a while. How is everyone?

I had another ultrasound today--I think I mentioned at the last one they saw no fluids. At this one, they did see some fluids, which is an improvement. The specialist didn't seem to think my drinking extra water made the difference, but, um, I've been close to or over a gallon a day, vs maybe half that if I was being careful...

Also, the growth is now at 33rd percentile, and 2 weeks ago it was at 20th percentile, so that's also improving. These both are "normal", but the fact is, neither dh nor I were ever below 90th percentile as a child, and I don't think I was ever below 95th, and both my mom's and dad's sides of the family produce a lot of 9 and 10 pound babies and very very few below 8 pounds, so I don't think official "normal" is actually normal in this case.

This would be both good and bad--bad because it would imply that growth has been restricted, but good since the growth seems to be speeding up at the same time as the fluid seems to have started returning. Hopefully they'll both continue improving and I won't have to go into the hospital by 30 weeks... We'll see... The later I can wait, the better, obviously.

I can understand on that--so far, our baby hasn't cooperated on letting us know if it's a boy or a girl, though I haven't asked the past two times... (and, of course, the folks at the ultrasound are focusing on other things right now... *sigh*)

January Mamas... I am so thankful to each of you. I wonder if any of you will ever know how much I treasured your company and reassurance all those long months. I rejoiced with you, cried with you, celebrated your little victories and hoped with my whole heart for rainbow babies for you. Thank you, January Mamas. You made my pregnancy bearable. You let me truly know that I was not alone. Or crazy. My joy was doubled and my troubles halved by sharing with you all.

I give thanks for the precious rainbow babies some of us received.

I remember the mothers whose arms are empty still.

I remember my own lost little ones.

And I remember yours too.

Warmly,

Amy
