hey mamas,
well I am in shock. My water started leaking last night... I was putting my 3-year old to bed and thought I'd wet my pants! But in a big way, no in a I-sneezed-and-leaked-a-bit. So I hustled off to the bathroom and let hubby finish bedtime. After peeing, I still had liquid coming out; not gushing but definitely not good. I simply couldn't believe it: I'd had perfect faith that this little guy would be born at home, I'd dreamed about it so long and even had accidentally found the midwife that had caught my husband. The midwife said to definitely get it checked out, so we loaded up our pajama'd kid and went to the ER, where we were sent right away to L&D. Everyone has been amazingly kind, but the bottom line is: I'm still leaking amniotic fluid, and only 32 weeks along, so I will be here on hospital bedrest til baby comes. At this point, they want to get some steroids in to help mature his lungs and once the last dose is in (tonight) they just want me to keep him in at least 24 more hours. However, there is no sign of labor starting: no ctx, the cervis is long & closed (per u/s) and so I may be here til 35 weeks at which point they would want to induce since the risk of infection at that point would outweigh the benefits of keeping him in.

I am so sad, and the hospital regulations on the swine flu just have me heartbroken that I can't see my little guy; however the doc kindly gave permission for me to get wheeled out to see him outside or in the lobby a few times a day. I think that makes this the worst, I feel so torn between wanting the baby to cook for as long as possible and between wanting to be with my son. Oh yeah and having my dreams of a homebirth shot out of the water in this manner is pretty lame.

Anyways, just wanted to update y'all.

aw ((mama))

Praying your little one stays inside until it's safer for him to be on the outside. Have you been checked for GBS? (that can be a cause for weak amniotic sac and can be important to know) I know I've heard so many stories of leaking for weeks and weeks and the baby was fine, no infections, enough fluids, etc.

Pray you peace and sanity, too.

Oh Regina! I can't believe this! Were you early with your son?
I'm so sorry that you won't get your homebirth and that you have to stay in the hospital. I'm glad you get to see your son, at least a little bit ....i think for me, that would be the hardest thing. But of course you want the baby to cook as long as possible...
I will be keeping you guys in my thoughts. I hope you brought lots of books to read!

mama. That is such a hard position to be in, I hope all the best for you.

Can you use internet in the hospital? Maybe you could use skype or something to do video conferencing with your DS.

thanks so much guys, your kind words brought tears to my eyes.

to answer a few questions that were posted: my first son came 2 days early and the sac was so strong that when the mw went to break it (when he was almost crowning) she was amazed at how thick it was. Who knows what happened, they think possibly bacteria weakened it, so to the PP who asked about GBS, I'm waiting for results I think we'll find out today or tomorrow. We hadn't checked yet since I was only 32 weeks.

Mandie, thanks, hubby will be able to bring the beads in so I'll just leave it be. Plus with all the swine flu rules they may not be able to give me a package sent here anyways! lol. They only allow 2 visitors at a time, go figure, I have no idea how that helps prevent the spread of disease... oy.

I don't supose it would be possible for you to stay put until a "safe" time and then go home for your HB? THAT would be a great compromise!

Regina - I'm sorry mama. I agree with Kidz, is there anyway you can rest at the hospital and then go home when the danger has passed? Much love to you
