How does it work on legal documents and such?

We're thinking of doing P. Cooper B. Lastname (note: child is going by middle name), but my husband is leery of the initial before *and* after the used name.

I guess legal documents would list child as Paul C. B. Lastname, right?

Hmm. Thoughts about common use? And what about monogramming?

I only have one middle name, but my grandma has two plus her maiden name plus her married name. So she is Patricia Y(middlename1) K(middlename2) Maidenname Lastname. In every document I have seen, plus things like her checks and her signature, her name is written as Patricia Y. Lastname

Obviously my DD isn't an adult yet LOL however, this is how all doctor's offices and documents we receive have her name listed. Her name is Addison Victoria Grace Lastname and it always says Addison V. Lastname.

We're planning to give our little boy two middle names and plan on having his documents looking like this: Firstname M. M. Last-Name. So, essentially, if we go with two middle names, they will only be seen as initials and they will be his story to tell!

But with my girls I spelled their middle names on all their documents... and I like that a lot, too.

Guess, I'm still not decided...

I have two middle names. On my social security card, only my first middle initial is listed. The second middle name is completely omitted. I'm not sure if other people have their full middle name on their cards, but I always supposed that the problem with mine was that my first name is also unusually long and they ran out of space or something. At any rate, I actually go by an abbreviated version of my second middle name (NOW, that wasn't the original intention of my parents) and it hasn't caused me any problems. When I need to fill out forms I will put all four names down. If there isn't room I just put my two middle initials down.

I will say that things seem to be changing on that front, though. Both of my girls also have two middle names. On the oldest one's SS card only her first middle name (in it's entirety) is listed. The second is left off. Whereas with my youngest, her full name (no abbreviations) is listed on her card. I still fill out forms like usual. Full name when asked for, and just the initials when there isn't room or the form specifically asks for the middle initial.

HTH!

I'm me. In love with this guy. We're bringing up two girls: Big A (8) and Little A (3)

My legal name is Angela R. B (first last name) S (second last name) and it freaking burns me to no end that my first last name gets dropped all the time. I think it's mostly because that is MY last name and I only lopped on the second last name (husband's name) so our children would have continuity.

Oh yeah since you are going by the middle name too I forgot I wanted to mention that my grandma goes by her middle name as well. The one that begins with K, actually. So she's in a super similar situation.
