I just wanna say that I am writing one of the best posts about DOING YOUR KEGELS of all...of today in this DDC.

Have posted this link before, but that was way back before any of us cared about actually starting the kegels.

http://kegel-exercises.com/kegels.html

(Some of you may already have very strong pelvic muscles and don't really need to do these, but you--and your partners--probably know who you are!)

KEGELS!

Ha! Sorry, that was it. If you do a search for the word "kegels" inside of our DDC, only one other post shows up -- my old one!

So...question...how do you know if your pelvic muscles are strong or weak?

Well for me I can just ask DH when we're "in bed"... Mine are actually stronger now than my last two pregnancies because of all the exercising and weightloss I had between DS2 and this one.

Even if you don't *think* you need to do them, you do! It will make recovery easier and hopefully keep away the postpartum...and antepartum...incontinence. It will also help for future pregnancies and to ward off any sort of prolapse later in life. I need to practice what I preach!

Prior to getting pregnant, the mw had said I had good muscle tone. But I leak with almost every sneeze now that I'm pregnant! Hoping that what happens during pregnancy isn't necessarily an indicator of what it will be like afterwards... (but still trying to do them as often as possible).

They hurt right now because of my tail bone. I still do them, but it's like "ow, 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10" relax "ow 2...."

It'd be nice not to pee every time I sneeze!

I'm going to the chiro this week hopefully.

Well, I don't pee when I sneeze yet. Maybe that's a good sign....or maybe I'm not far along enough? I'm due Feb. 24th.

When you try to stop peeing midstream, that's how you find the muscles you are supposed to be working on. But don't make this when you do the actual kegels, as it discourages full emptying of the bladder and can lead to UTI.

Once you've found the muscles, see how hard or easy it is for you to contract them. Can you hold them for a count of five? Ten? Can you contract them 'like an elevator'--stopping at different floors?

And please forgive the suggestion, but it can also be helpful to discover the strength of your pelvic muscles by inserting your fingers into your vagina and trying to contract the muscles, or getting your partner involved in helping you with this. Over time (the link in my original post above says 6 to 12 weeks!?), you and your partner may begin to notice a difference.

The pee-when-I-sneeze thing happens earlier with each pregnancy. I'm sure it was 3rd trimester the first time. Kegels do help, but I think due to pain I'm not so good at them right now *sigh* I guess I need depends.

I do lots of kegels (there are about fifteen signs up in my house, remind me to do them ), but last week, I started leaking with every sneeze and cough. I'm thinking of trying one of these: http://www.intentional-moments.com/c...83/6999268.htm, but it kind of weirds me out.

Not as scary as the "Kegel Master"! Not even going to link to it, as it does not have the appearance of being safe for any working mommies to be looking at in the office!

Can I just say I HATE Kegels.....with a passion. They make me angry. Doing them makes me grumpy, thinking about how I "should" be doing them makes me snippy. Seriously, I don't know why I have such strong feelings about "them" but I do.

That said, I don't do them. I DO do yoga with bhandas, so about an hour and a half of yoga with built in perineal/pelvic floor exercises, but no specific, dreaded Kegels.

This is #5 baby for me, #9 pregnancy and no serious incontinence issues up to this point (knock on wood).

So, you know I had to Google it right? Um, yeah, that weirds me out even more! I have a strange aversion to things going up there that aren't supposed to be there naturally (notice I said naturally...I am on my fifth pregnancy, so I obviously enjoy sex ). I have never been able to wear tampons. I've worn one in my life, and I felt like vomiting the entire time (it was also traumatic; I was in eight grade, and could not, for the life of me, get the thing out. My mom was in a cramped public bathroom with me, trying to pull the stupid thing out, while I cried. Now I laugh, but then, it was awwwfuuuul!). So, um, yeah, that thing looks too much like a tampon to me!

Yeah, my mom is pretty awesome like that. The day after our wedding, who do you think my husband was talking about sex issues to, his friends? No, my mom.
