With this being our third and last baby I would really like to have a natural birth (no pain meds, little intervention) I have Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and The Whole Pregnancy Handbook, both of which are wonderful. I've also read The Birth Book, although I worry about it not being current enough. Do you ladies have any suggestions?

So many great books out there! But this pregnancy my favorite book is Birthing From Within. I wish I had read it before I had DD. SO different from the many other books I've read!

Sabrina loving wife to Nate , frazzled mom to Gabriella (1-23-07) and Robert (2-9-10) My bed and heart are overflowing!

I like Birthing from Within and Susan McCutcheon's Bradley Method book (Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way), though the latter did make DH think that I would be birthing in the nude. My favorite, if you're planning a hospital birth, is probably The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer. It's quite technical, though, and covers what the research says about various common interventions.

Amy loving DH 5/04, raising DD 2/05 and DS 11/09; missing my mom& my babies 6/07, 12/07; and on the side

Birth Without Violence is a good, short quick read - more about ideas of how interventions can affect baby.

I am reading Active Birth: The New Approach to Giving Birth Naturally by Janet Balaskas and Journey into Motherhood: Inspirational Stories of Natural Birth by Sheri Menelli. I am really liking both.

I am wanting to get the book Back Labor No More. It has a belly lift technique that is suppose to be very useful. And the Birth Partner by Penny Simkin?

Childbirth without Fear by Grantly Dick-Read has some good parts too.

I second all of the other books previously mentioned....

Dd Sydney 3/06 & Dd Lola 2/10

Maybe a little bit technical, but a short read and portable -- The Labor Progress Handbook by Penny Simkin. It's the book doulas especially love to keep handy to refer to at a birth.

Tamara: Aspiring doula, partner to Brazilian musician, mom to THREE GIRLIES!
