Well, I had my baby on Monday evening. I had very much hoped and planned for a drugfree, intervention free, calm and serene birth at the birth center. But that was not to be.

I started prodomal labor Thursday night. Ctx were intense but irregular. The back pain was just horrendous. By Saturday night I decided it was time to go. We got there and labored all night and the next day. I had got to 8cm by 6 pm, but didn't go any further. We tried everything they had. I stayed at 8 for the next nine hours until I realized I'd hit a wall and couldn't take any more.

So we transfer to the hospital where I get an epidural so I can rest and pit to try to get me over the last hump. It took another ten hours to get me to 10cm, at which point we tried pushing. Nothing doing. I did 4 hours and got nowhere and by now I am incoherent with back pain. I finally consent to a c-section.

I had Elsa at 5:20 pm. I heard them all exclaiming over her size and when they showed her to me I thought she did look a little large. And what seemed like an eternity later they weighed her and announced I'd just had a 13 lb 8 oz baby.

All my regrets flew out the window. I know myself and I do not think she was coming out on her own. And even if she could, I wouldn't have been able to handle what it would have taken. I really feel like I did all I could, and just happened to fall into the statistic of women who really do need a section.

My baby is here now and I wouldn't do anything differently. Breastfeeding has been a little rough, but she has no problems and I'm recovering very well. Hopefully we can go home tomorrow. Just wanted to let everyone how it went.

WOW, I am completely impressed with how you handled labor. Great job, the end result was a healthy baby and healthy mamma and that is all that matters - that baby and your body knew what was best for you.

Crashing your ddc to say congratulations! Thank goodness medical interventions are there when we need them, right? Enjoy your newborn girl!

Ninetales 02-28-2010 03:27 PM

She was 23.25 inches long at birth. She sleeps all the time and won't nurse and it feels like my world is falling apart.

Marylizah 02-28-2010 05:05 PM

Oh, hugs, mama. I know it's hard not to worry. I bet if you post over in Breastfeeding Challenges you'll get lots of great tips for helping sleepy babies wake up and nurse. Have you tried tickling her feet? Touching her hands? She may just be extra sleepy.

Anyway, congratulations on the birth of your daughter!!!

Ninetales 02-28-2010 06:56 PM

I have posted there. Mostly the consensus is to talk to an LC which is hard to do on the weekend. The not nursing is not because of the sleepiness, though. She literally gets angry and fights the breast. I don't know what to do at this point because no one seems to have anything to say about it.

Surfacing 02-28-2010 07:06 PM

How's your supply and let down/flow? She could be angry because she doesn't like the flow -- whether it's too slow or too fast. How are things going?

Ninetales 02-28-2010 07:09 PM

I can manually express and I usually pump anywhere from 1-3 oz from both breasts. This morning I laid with her skin to skin and she slept fine but when she started waking up she wouldn't even take it even though my breast was leaking.
