I had prodromal labor starting about four weeks before DS was born. It was intermittent and not super heavy but there all the same. I didn't think much of it but especially as a first-time mommy it made me go "Hmm, that's interesting!"
This time it looks like I may have more of the same. Over the last five or so days I've been having contractions, sometimes intermittent, sometimes back to back, with a decent amount of force to them. Definitely enough to make me pause
.
I know I'm not dehydrated or anything when this happens either. DS was born at 39 and 2. I'm curious to see when this babe decides to make an appearance. I don't mind the ctx really. Kinda keeps me focused on some of the things I need to do in the next few weeks to try and make this transition as smooth as possible. School, moving, new baby, all happening within weeks of each other. Gah!
Anyone else tend to have ctx for weeks before babe is born?
It seems that my BH contractions get stronger with each pregnancy. I've had "whoa, ok, that was a contraction" for a couple months, now, like maybe a couple each day. Last time I was shocked how strong my BH were (the second baby) and this time, I'm again shocked. I did have prodromal labor last time, for a week or so, but it was more consistent, I guess...
Yeah, I get lots of BH ctx too. In fact, I'm having one right now
. That's just with the tightening and loosening, no hurting there. These other suckers though, with the low crampy and the throbbing pain, yeeeeah, they're not so friendly
. They happen throughout the day and night but nothing I'm concerned about.
I keep forgetting I'll likely be in one of the first waves of preggies to go since I'm due that first week of March sometime. We'll see. I'm feeling extremely pissy though (stupid effing snow), especially with the pelvic pain really kickin' in and the back issues. I don't want to do jack crap, I tell ya. That's not agreeing with DS however. I really need to plan an activity for us to do every single day I think. Well, I had something for us to do today but

Damn that was tangenty and all kinds of OT!
Yeah, you're a few weeks ahead of me. I'm hitting 30 weeks this weekend... and have been past 40 with both my kids. With Ds, I definitely had some strong prodromal stuff starting around 36 weeks or so. That was annoying at best
And then my mom didn't answer her cell (she was supposed to come watch Dd while I labored) when I thought it might really be the real thing and she has a 2 hour drive to get down here... and that made me even more
Yeah, we decided not to go anywhere/do anything today, too. The roads aren't great and DD was not overly interested in getting ready for preschool this morning so we went with taking a day off instead.
I have TONS. I have since my first, though its definitely been worse with this one and the one before it. Heck, I was basically in labor with my last one-hard contractions every 3 minutes on the dot for hours-but my cervix stayed closed and thick. Its like my body was like OMG get him out, you're sick! And my cervix was like NOPE! She's not full term yet!
Anyway, as a result I'm not at all worried *but* it is soooo annoying! I end up with contractions all day and while they're mild, its still a little hurty and crampy and it annoys me. So. Much.

OMG, I almost spit coffee all over my monitor
. Not cool with the pain but your description cracked me the hell up
I actually HAVE been worried about my contractions this time around. I don't remember feeling any with my daughter. I went in to triage at 38 wks for decreased fetal movement (she woke up as soon as they strapped on the monitors), and I was contracting on thier monitors, but it was not something I noticed.
This time, however, I have been feeling contractions since about 20 wks. I checked my cervix and it felt signifigantly softer and more open than before I was preg, so that terrified me, but now 10+ weeks later, it feels the same as it did then, so I am trying to relax and make sure I drink more water. They never come more than 4/hr and I don't feel like the baby is engaged.
I had BH last time, but never even felt them unless I happened to have my hand on my belly at the time. No contractions or anything otherwise. I figured this time would be the same. So far I've had one BH that I've felt, and likely more that I haven't felt. But today twice I've had a weird, tightening pain down near my cervix, one that made me actually pause and sort of go "oh" out loud. I wondered at the time if it was maybe a contraction? Might sound weird, but I'm really not sure. It felt different than just the baby kicking my cervix though. I haven't had much water today though because we were out and I forgot my bottle, so I came home and drank a bunch of water and so far haven't had any others.
I have no idea what to expect, this being my first pregnancy and baby. I feel a tightening from time to time but it's hard to tell if it's the baby really rolling around or my uterus contracting. I guess when it gets closer I'll be more able to tell, especially if they get stronger. I'm cool with them not showing up for a few more weeks, though!
I typically do have cntrx for weeks before baby is born. Usually within the week of birth I have one really "good" phase where I know I'm not "really" in labor yet, but it's usually enough to open me up to about 3-4cm. I usually don't give birth until at least 3-4 days after that. With my son it was just about a full week.
That's part of why I'm usually like 5-6cm by the time I'm certain it's "really" time. Everything else up to that point just feels like strong and somewhat uncomfy BH.
I'm definitely expecting more of the same this time around, and yet I'm starting to wonder because I really haven't had any uncomfortable "episodes" yet. Unfortunately, this also causes me to doubt the efficiency of my cervix now that I'm a little older and have had a bunch of kids already.

That's how I felt last time, and even though I've done it once, still a bit this time too. I found with real BH contractions though, if I put my hand on my stomach it will be super tight and hard all over, not just where baby is. So next time that happens put your hand on your stomach and see if it feels harder than normal. I only ever knew I was even having a BH if I happened to put my hand on my belly at the right time. It seems to be the same this time too so far.
