I was in to see my midwife today and TOTALLY forgot to ask....

Is anyone else experiencing a really sharp pinching sensation in the vaginal area....seems to be on the inside? It almost feels like sharp fingernails grabbing hold of something....it doesn't occur constantly, but a couple times of day and it's really intense but just for a few moments.... any ideas on what this is?

Yes, I have that too. It feels like baby is trying to pry his way out with a sharp pointy object, LOL.
I figure it's my cervix getting ready. I haven't worried about it too much because I had it with DD as well. I think it's normal tho not at all fun.

yep, that's your cervix getting ready for labor.

Okay....thanks...it's been over 11 years since my previous pregnancies so I don't remember all I experienced...guess I blocked it out...but last night I had this sensation in the middle of the night and it sat me straight up in bed out of sound sleep....I can't sit up quick like that awake! OUCH! ugh....5 weeks to go! And this baby already wants to keep me up at night!

Mine is more of a dull stabbing sensation deep inside. Not like fingernails, more like accupressure on a very sensitive point! My midwife this week checked my cervix when I asked her to, because I'd been feeling it a few times. She said it was "very soft" and just starting to open. I'm at 36 weeks.
Exciting to feel it starting to happen! I can't wait to meet this little guy...

I've been having it for a few weeks. OUCH! I've seriously had to squirm out of my chair and try and lift the baby up because it's so uncomfortable for me.

I'm getting this more frequently now, definitely sucks! I'm almost 90% effaced and thinking that if I get many more twinges I'm going into labor.

Happy excited Mama! Evelyn Isabel born March 12, 2010!

Man, I read this today (and responded) and the rest of the day, I've had a BUNCH of them. And a lot of BH. I'm only 36 weeks, so hopefully it's not some sign of impending labor...

So THATS what that feeling is!! It's so painful for me! This is a totally new feeling - I really thought it was the baby trying to claw it's way out...darn, I'd check myself if I could reach...just for the heck of it.

I read somewhere....on some website that I don't necessarily trust the authority of...that this really does NOT indicate the beginning of labor...in other words, it can still be WEEKS away, not necessarily just a week or two... does anyone know of any verifiable resources that state this? I'm thinking this could go on for the remainder of the 4 1/2 weeks before my due date, not that it means it will be sooner....any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure I had it for weeks with my last one... sooo... yeah. But then, I've heard of women who are extremely dilated (like 6 cm or whatever) for weeks, too, without really being in labor...

Oh my gosh, I'd be thrilled if I went into labor!! That would be the best thing ever!!!! I know my OB would be ok with a vaginal delivery (as long as I went into labor before 39 weeks), his nurses have asked if I'm having another c-section a few times. I had a NST this am - I was so uncomfortable sitting in the same position for so long, the nurse who came to check the read out asked if I'd felt the contractions - I'm pretty sure it was just the baby moving, but I say "Bring on the contractions!"

Oh - and I did try to find my cervix last night. Despite my contortionist like efforts, I could NOT find it. I've never had a problem before, and I did manage to get my whole fingers up there (it just took some creativity on my part)

Well, I remember a few months back one of the c-section mamas in one of the DDCs had an accidental vbac... I guess she showed up and her body was clearly doing it and her doctor was just like "ok, you're going to push..." So stranger things have happened...
