A few weeks earlier my daughter had a conversation with my bump and confidently told me baby would arrive on a staurday.........guess what..........she was right!!
It all started Thursday night I had on and off cramping all night. The following afternoon my midwife arrived to perform a membrane sweep as I was fast approaching 42 weeks and wanted a homebirth. When she did the sweep she also noted that I was already 2cm dilated and my cervix was ready.
I had a shower around 16:00 and noticed that my mucous plug was starting to come away.
I then decided to have a nap just incase today was the day. I was woken from my nap with very strong cramping.Thats when I realised these must be "contractions" I phoned the midwife and asked her for advice I told her the contractions were coming at different times with no pattern she told me to call back once they were every 5 minnutes or sooner if I needed advice.
Soon the contractions were coming around every 5 minutes and were lasting 30 seconds so I called the midwife she told me that I didnt "sound" like I was in enough discomfort for it to be "real labour" but she decided to come out to see me.
She arrived around 23:00. I was examined and at that point I was 3cm dilated she stayed for a while and then she left at 00:10 telling me to call her if the contractions were lasting 60-90 seconds.
I went into the shower after that as I sarted to feel my contractions getting stronger. I found great relief by filling my mouth with water and swirling it around when the contrations came on. I think it just disracted my mind. Soon I wanted out of the shower and went to find my husband.
I then started to get upset and kept telling him I'm scared and I want to sleep he comforted me and took me into the birthing room. By this point the contractions were every two minutes and I started making noises to help me get through them. My husband said he was going to call the midwife because he thought baby would be coming soon.
He called the midwife and when she heard me making noises in the background she said "i'm on my way"
With the next contraction I put my hand around my husbands neck and suddenly wanted to bear down. I pulled him down as I squatted I shouted "i need to push"
He the guided me into the pool. Thats when I took the squatting position and my contractions started coming very fast and furious I could hardly tel when one ended and one started. My husband was amazing comforting me and telling me "I was doing fantastic" and "baby would be here soon"
I started making noises that came from my throat like a growl or a roar. My husband told me later he couldnt believe how strong the sounds were and what amazed him the most was in between the noises I would put my hand gently in the water and touch our babies head and say "dont worry, you'll be here soon"
With every contraction I needed to push I could feel baby coming down, I needed to make noises , every growl, scream helped me to bring baby further down.
Then I felt the ring of fire that moment when babies head has crowned I knew with the next contraction baby would be out. At that moment I needed to bite down. And ouch i did on my poor husband!!
I then burried my head in the side of the pool and let out one last cry and pushed I felt baby slide out of me and into the pool. I gently raised baby to the surface!
My husband and I were so much in awe that we just sat there and we had forgotten to even check the sex of baby!
The midwife arrived and I delivered my placenta, I delivered it very quickly and with ease.
I then got out of the pool and we sat and welcomed our daughter into the world.
Once the midwife had gone we took baby through to a still sleeping sister. She woke up and cooed over her new sister. We all then cuddled up in our super kingsize bed and went to sleep bliss
What amazes me is how I went from 3cm to 10cm in just over an hour. Also how wonderful my body was to know when to push. It was automatic ! how wonderful our bodies are xxxx
