New thread, people!

So, I want to hear all about your induction methods. Obviously they won't work for those of us with iron clad cervical determination, but I want to hear about it anyways.

I'm trying the "take lots of naps" method of induction. I feel this requires serious inquiry, and evaluation will not be complete for several weeks.

so far I have tried (and hopefully my MW doesn't log on to MDC or I'm in biiiiig trouble, lol)

lots of sex
walking
babysitting twin 2 year olds (which involves a lot of yelling and chasing, purported to bring on labor)
driving on a bumpy road (this one did give me contractions,I just need to find a longer road....)
cohoshes, which actually seemed to make ctx go away....not sure why
nipple stimulation, which we are clearly not mature enough to do in earnest, so I can't speak for whether it works if you do it right.
walking over sand dunes
climbing a very large hill
swinging
eating pineapple (my kid keeps stealing it off my plate)
climbing a children's rock climbing wall
and today I conducted research on the effectiveness of wearing high heels and subsequently tripping over my toddler and falling flat on my behind. I was sure THAT would do it, but so far several hours later, all evidence points to the contrary. apparently the 40-week pregnan belly reduces toddler visibility.

I find driving an hour or two away to a zoo or something will do it, or you'll have some good pictures and a nice trip before baby comes.....

Nipple stimulation worked somewhat with me last pregnancy and I'm still nursing my 2yr old so that takes care of that part this time.

I've never had any reaction with food (spicy or pineapple or anything like that) I wouldn't purposely eat food (or supplement) that made me have lots of BM because I think I would feel to week for labor then.

Sex seems to help somewhat but my cervix seems pretty ready anyway.

Mental training also works with me..... Post labor words throughout the house.
Write stuff like "Opening Cervix" and "Close manageable contractions" and images that remind you of opening throughout the house.....

Talk to you inner self in that way.

Haha, well, going to a wedding with male college friends didn't do it, and apparently bar mitzvahs and dancing don't either.

I have a pretty good track record doing trigger points on my friends/family the night before they start labor, and I did it on myself with dd1. It, however didnt work on dd2 or my friend the other day who is 37 weeks and had a run of labor that stopped, she wanted to start it up again. I havent tried this time because I am 39weeks today, and my last baby was born at 40+5 so it seems too early. Eating A TON of italian food is what brought dd2. My spine hurt from the inside out, and I am pretty sure she finally realized there is just not enough room. She was 9lbs 13oz.
My MWs keep me patient when I want to do some crazy things they tell me my baby will come when its ready, and lots of other good things, which lasts for about 24 hours and then I need another pep talk.

Other than taking EPO, I have never really tried any kind natural induction methods. I know my body will go into labor when it's ready and I don't have a care provider who freaks once I pass 40 weeks, even as a VBAC. The OB that I go to doesn't really talk induction/scheduling until closer to 42 weeks unless there is a sign something is wrong. I think he wants women to come in for office visits maybe twice a week after 40 weeks, but I've never gone more than three days past my due date so I don't know that for sure.

If there is one method I have tried that has worked, it is to have a messy house and not have things in order and that is when I will go into labor.

I recently changed my username, but I still say "Hello" to all those who know me in real life! Hi P, S, T and K!

I tried everything last time, and nothing worked.
castor oil
EPO
accupuncture
accupressure
cohoshes
sex
long hilly walks
bumpy car rides
fresh ginger
spicy food
etc..

This time I've been just doing the fun stuff, like walks, sex, and pineapple + eggplant. I don't really expect any of it to work, but it makes me feel productive sometimes.

Oh, and I also tempted fate by having a messy house, no clean towels, no snacks, etc. It totally didn't work.

That's where I am. Still sittin' pretty with no baby and no contractions. I think I've got at least another 2 weeks.

We'll see if the Webster version tomorrow does anything.

I'm 40 weeks plus 5 days, and the midwives aren't concerned at all, they said I could fo 42-43 weeks... yikes! I don't want to! So, I have been doing some things to hopefully get things moving, but I don't really want to "induce" until my body is ready. I might feel differently a week from now though!

I have been:
napping
deep squats
EPO
walks
Thai food
Mexican food

That's about it for now. Oh, and RRL tea, started today.

I am also currently only on the "take lots of naps" method. I took a nap w/ dd today & when she woke up I was like, "Well, I guess me laying here all day is not going to get things moving," lol.

The only other method in place is actually keeping up w/ the house cleaning and having both dh and my mom actually ready on standby, as far as their jobs are concerned. Both of those right there guarantee no labor until 2016, BARE MINIMUM.

I ate a whole pineapple over the course of a day
EPO orally, just started vaginally
sex, but we're too tired to be really consistent
leaving things til the last minute eg. car seat installation
finally doing the important things on my list and telling everyone I'm "ready"
RRL tea
lots of ice cream
some walking

I know, it's just 'cause this thread is new and all, but the postpardum thread currently has way more pages than this one, and it's making me sad.

I need to go make some banana ice cream.

Also, I have a lovely yeast infection! OH JOY!!! I had a yeast infection the last time I was almost due. THIS IS DUMB AND BAD AND DUMB.

I posted this in the May 2010 forum (yes, some of us are already getting antsy), and though you ladies might like it as well. Being due May 1, I'm also ready for my pregnancy to come to an end (had pineapple for breakfast this morning). Anyway, the restaurant where this comes from boasts a success rate of 300 births within 48 hours of eating this recipes. Don't know if I'll make it yet, but give me a few weeks.

Of course, I changed the recipe a bit (didn't feel like spending a fortune on romano and ricotta), added way more basil + oregano (but it was dried) and just ate it in a big pile instead of layering and baking, 'cause I wanted it crispy.
Okay, maybe I changed it a lot..
Really, I just wanted some fried eggplant. Mmm.

So, I ran some errands today. I'm pretty upbeat and laid back in general, and I'm feeling pretty good, so when people ask my due date and I tell them it was 2 days ago, the response I generally get is "How come you're not miserable?"
I thought my grandma was the only one who was going to say that.

I went to the local herb shop to get some alfalfa and stinging nettle tea, since I'd heard that drinking that in the weeks before birth can help lessen bleeding (I bled a lot last time), and the cashier lady was kind of confused that I wasn't in there for induction methods.
She said that most women they see that are 36 weeks or later come to their store in a panic, asking for cohoshes and castor oil.

Sorry to hear about the yeast, loveneverfails. I had that last time and it was so uncomfortable. You should go on this whole no-refined-sugar thing with me. I'll even share my banana ice cream. Maybe.

I'm not even really doing refined sugars! That's the weird thing. Although I had a yeast infection about 10 days before the last baby, so maybe I'll be having a baby in 10 days? That would be my due date.

So, the countdown is on, then? 10 days until you have your baby.
I won't even have started to dilate yet. Your cervix might be iron-clad, but mine is made of solid iron.

I'm still going to be pregnant in May, and you're not. Nyah.

edit: and don't give me that "oh, I'm not eating refined sugar" nonsense when there's nutella on your pants!!

I've had painful cramps for two nights in a row now. Last night's were extremely painful, but irregular.

See here's the thing...I really don't mind waiting until the baby is totally ready to come out, but why does the waiting now have to include complete lack of sleep and extreme physical pain??? I feel like a useless lump, I really can't do anything but complain. The baby keeps slamming her head into my pubic bone over and over, and during contractions my pubic bone THROBS.

Please tell me this can't go on for weeks.

I'm hitting my due dates now. The first one is 4/20, which was the 8 week ultrasound date. 4/22 is the next one--conception based due date.

Dude, I spent a FULL WEEK at 5cm dilation with a freaking 11 lber. Don't start with me. And my cervix can totally go backwards dilationwise. I have a retractable cervix. SO THERE!

And I'm not eating the nutella! I'm still freaking scared of another 11 lber even though Mercy was coming in around 7 1/4 lbs at my last prenatal on Saturday. I'm not doing anything to screw with my perfect tiny baby. Hell no. The kids can eat the nutella before the baby comes, and then I get a big old tub of my own once the baby is out. In 2016.

Pepper, I can tell you that can't go on for weeks, but I'd be lying. I had 5 weeks of contractions with DD before she finally made her debut. Can you nap during the day, or does it happen every time you lay down? Maybe the napping method of induction would work for you?

loveneverfails, don't think you're the only one with a retractible cervix.
Last time around, after a day of labor, I was at 7cm- then on my next check, I was back down to 5!! My cervix was like "time for transition- PSYCH!!!"

I've never actually had nutella. I do know, however, that 20g of each 37g serving is sugar. It sounds divine.
You know what I'm having after this baby is born? A cheesecake. A whole effing cheesecake. Maybe with some nutella on top.

In other news, do any of you ladies still need/want a labor buddy? I had a labor buddy assigned from the great labor buddy thread, but she never responded to my private message, so I guess I'm in the market again.

I have a box of Cocoa Pebbles and a bag of Twizzlers in my birth kit. LOL If anyone asks why I have them in my birth kit, it's b/c I plan to eat both of those items after the baby is born. Maybe not all in one sitting, but the whole box of cereal and the whole bag of Twizzlers is mine! All I need is my DH to bring me a gallon of milk and I'll be good.

I'm sure my DH will wonder why I have a box of cereal and some Twizzlers in my birth kit. Actually, Twizzlers have been present at all my births. DH snuck them to me during my first labor and I've had a bag of them at each birth since. I'm sure I'll find more stuff to add before I have the baby, but I made sure I had my box of Cocoa Pebbles.

Aw, that's such a cute story, sneaking twizzlers and making a tradition out of it.
Um.. my pregnancy hormones are in overdrive today.

The only thing I remember eating at DD's birth is cantaloupe, but I know I can't buy one now and expect it to still be edible when I give birth.

The only food thing I have in my box right now are Luna Moons.

I have watermelon flavored twizzler pull and peels in my recovery box.

And I will be going to buy a birthday cake when I'm in labor. And I think we'll be having Wendy's for the meal after that. Wendy's has been our food of celebration since we drove through Wendy's after getting married.

Sorry about the yeast. Blech. Sounds terrible. (I'm secretly clapping, though, because if you go in 10 days I'm soooooo winning this.)

Congrats!

Sooooooo.... day 1 of Webster technique doesn't seem to have shifted baby. I go back tomorrow afternoon for day 2, with the possibility of 5 days in a row. We shall see, I suppose.

But nope, no labor. I just got an Ikea catalog today to "baby E" postmarked "your uterus," so I'm pretty sure baby is setting up camp and ordering furniture.

OK, I don't see a weekly thread right now - just a postpartum thread and this one. I have a question that I am torn about asking. I am going to try to phrase this so that I don't get flamed, but I'm not sure it's going to come out right.

My MW called me last week and said she sprained both her ankles, tore some ligaments, and will not be attending birth for a while. Her apprentice will still be there and my MW has arranged to have another MW at the birth. Her apprentice was at my last birth and I know she is experienced and knows what she is doing. I've already paid the MW I hired her full fee. This is where I am conflicted: should I have to pay her the entire fee if she is not going to be there for a reason beyond my control. I spoke with two other MWs earlier in this pregnancy both of which cost less. I liked both the other MWs I spoke to, but decided I would go with the one who's experience I felt most comfortable with (and that ended up costing more) but I did not choose based on money. I did not speak to the MW that will be at this birth and from what I understand, she hasn't been attending births for a little while (various reasons).

It's not that I don't think that the MW I did hire shouldn't be paid. Of course she should be paid for the work she's done but it's not as if she missed my birth b/c it was too fast or I changed my mind. I realize that the MW I did hire will be paying the MW who does go to my birth, but should I still have to pay the MW I did hire her entire fee if she's not going to be there for reasons that were beyond my control? I'm not totally comfortable with this situation, but what else can I do? I'm OK with it, but not totally comfortable, b/c I do have the continuity of having the apprentice and my doula who have been at at least one of my past births, but I'm suddenly having a totally new person who will be at my birth. If I were going to a practice that had more than one care provider, I wouldn't know who was going to be at my birth, but this is one reason why I'm having a homebirth - to have a relationship with the MW that I know. I know the MW did not hurt herself on purpose, but this really throws a 39 week pregnant woman for a loop.

I recently changed my username, but I still say "Hello" to all those who know me in real life! Hi P, S, T and K!
