First of all, that word "overdue" 's the heck out of me. ACOG even states that you are not post term until 42 weeks.

Anyway, someone asked me today when my due date is and I told her "it was a week ago, its old news now", she says "and what does your doctor think about that??????".

Its so funny how 40 weeks is some magical day to have your baby by and if you don't, you better be running to your doc!! sheesh!!

i don't know why people are so irritating

today i got the "are you STILL pregnant?" quesion. my edd is not until 5.29. then she was like "well it seems like you've been pg forever!" i really didn't know how to respond to that. she just kept going on and on about how long i've been pg. so finally i said with a 'tude "sorry to disappoint you!" ugh!!

Seriously.
My ds got to visit his kindergarten classroom today, so I had lots of other soon-to-be-kdg'er parents asking me when I was due. I said "a week & a half ago" and was met with terrified eyes. "Why aren't you in the hospital?"

and my favorite "THEY LET YOU GO THAT LONG??"

That's the one that chaps my arse more than anything. No one LETS me do anything, thanks. I keep my tongue bit and go with a laughing "well, you're not technically overdue til you hit 42 weeks so I still have 5 days to go."

People seriously forget that a "due date" is not an expiration date!

See? Now, that's why its so hard to stay zen at the end of pregnancy. I stayed home from church this past Sunday because I wasn't up to fending off those sorts of questions on Mother's Day. *sigh* I will rise above, I will rise above, I will rise above.

This is so frustrating. People act as if I am "overdue" now because I am one day from my due date and I haven't delivered... It drives me crazy! I am so NOT answering my phone anymore to give status updates. People are ridiculous. Oh yes, and if and when I get pregnant again, people will NOT know my actual due date, that I am sure of.

I did that this time. My EDD was May 3. I told everyone "mid-May" thinking I was safe. Well, it's mid-May. I should've just told everyone June.

My neighbor saw me yesterday and said, "You haven't had that baby yet? How big is it?"

To which I replied, "I don't know, she hasn't come out yet."

"But don't they do that sonogram thing?"

"That tells you nothing."

"I know, but...."

Me: blank stare.

A lady I know was like "OMG they're not going to let you go past your due date are they?" But she lost one of her babies because something happened when she went past her due date.

Most people are just trying to give advice based on their experience or some thing they read somewhere or heard somewhere that they think you should know. I don't think most people know they're being irritating.

I've had some of this stuff from just about everybody I know now. I think most of it comes from a good place, it was just unsolicited. So far I've just nodded and smiled at them. Seems to work pretty well.

My standard answer these days is "yep, I'm huge. Uh huh, could be anytime." LOL

Heck, I'm a couple days shy of 38wks and getting hammered w/ this. Just this morning at the gym a friend says...how much longer? I said EDD was in a couple weeks. She asked if I was dialated at all. I said I've been 3-4cm since 36wks. She said: "whoa! How long will they let you go like that?!?!". I was like, before they what?!

My SIL asked me how long I "have to wait" before they will induce. I just told her that if I go past 42wks I'd consent to a NST and see where we were at 43. She said, they will "make you go that long?!"

Yes, people are insane. I don't even think it's their fault...sadly, being induced days after the edd is normal. Last summer I was at the playground with a pregnant mama days before her edd. People weren't asking when she was due, they were asking when she'd be induced. I have a friend who is preggo with her 3rd babe. She has never gone into labor naturally. They will induce her before her edd just to make sure she makes it to the hospital on time. Huh?!?!?!?!?!?!?

People just don't know that it's normal for a babe to gestate more than 40 weeks. Just like they don't realize birth is normal. I try to remember all of this when I get the comments. I am 38 weeks and have been getting the "soon, huh?" looks and comments for weeks and weeks. Now it's "you're still pregnant?" Um, yes, and I expect to be for a few more weeks, and that is ok with me. I don't need to rush my sweet babe!

Here's wishing all of us patience. People mean well and I think they're actually trying to be sympathetic. Sigh! Anyway, I'm thankful to be feeling well, and I hope that I do, in fact, have a few more weeks. There's a lot I'd like to get done!

Best wishes mamas!!!

I went to watch my wife's band play last night at an assisted living community in town. One of the guys in the band says to me, "Shouldn't you be like... laying down or something?!"

Uh yeah. This bluegrass concert in an old folks home is REALLY too strenuous for me right now. People are funny!

I was at the playground with DS last week and some guy was all "isn't it too hot for you to be out here?"
Dude, it was 65 degrees out. Seriously.

41+4 days and counting. Here's hoping for the new moon tonight to nudge things along.

Last Sunday there was an old man I know at church who asked me "When are THEY due?" As in....I look big enough to have twins in there. I know he was pretty proud of himself. I actually chuckled a little because I actually have never heard that one before.

I'm just laying low now to avoid the comments. Hopefully baby will be just like his brothers and sisters and show up right around my due date next Friday. Until then I'm not answering the phone or hanging out with anyone. I'm going to chill in my "nest".

Now that you've made it through the plumbing work and your photographer will be available again after today's events, I'm hoping that for you as well.

Not "overdue" comments as such, but I have to share my experiences getting to work today for my final day on Wall St. before my maternity leave. Within three minutes, the deli owner asked me if the pregnancy was "unexpected...an accident," some guy on the street did a triple-take at me as I walked past (really?), and the door guy for my building asked if it was twins and then responded "a BIG boy, then" when I said it was just one. Sheesh.

This is exactly what I did this time around and it has made things sooooo much easier. I highly recommend it! I just told people I was due "sometime in May".

My DH, OTOH, made the mistake of telling his co-workers that I was due this past Monday. The one preggo girl in his office freaked-out and was like "OMG, that's not safe! When will they induce her?" My DH kinda chuckled and said that I would not be allowing any inductions anytime soon. She was flabbergasted.

DH now sees the wisdom of my ways.

Last night I was at Walmart and a lady who worked there said "Are you due any time soon?"

I replied, "Yes, tomorrow, actually."

Her eye proceeded to get HUGE as a worried look crossed her face. She cautioned, "Oh wow, please just walk VERRRRRY SLOWLY." She then repeated once again "VERY SLOW"

I laughed.
