I just couldn't get through enough hypnobabies to feel like I will be able to get a thing out of it. This will be my 3rd birth, hopefully w/ no pain meds. My last included 9 hrs of max dosed pit, so I am a little gun shy of the pain this go around.

I am thinkng I want to toss some kind of relaxing, chanting type of stuff on my ipod for when the going gets tough.

Anyone have faves?

Krishna Das has some wonderful uplifting but soothing chants that are very downloadable on itunes. I found them very comforting.

well I don't know how much help I'll be considering I've never done hypno birth and have no interest in relaxing chants but I birthed my daughter naturally to Flogging Molly. I love their music and it kept me upbeat and in the groove enough to go from transition to pushing to birth. Prior I listend to all american rejects (their second cd, not the dirty little secrets one.) Normally I'm a country gal, but they kept me focused and encouraged with their beats it was especially fun becaues I birthed a Molly.. people were confused when i asked them to put on flogging molly in all my slurred about to push glory... no one knew who they were... but everyone knew the baby coming was named Molly hahaha

So yeah.. I'm not sure thats helpful, but I plan on doing something similar with other babies since it worked so well with her.

There is something on itunes I bought a while back... look up "music for deep relaxation." I think that's actually what the artist name is. Album is "classical violin and flute."

Sooooooo relaxing.

Mama to two, and second-time surrogate. Expecting May 2015.

My birthing playlist has Neurosis on it. I'm pretty sure not helpful to ANYONE in the world but me.
What about Portishead? Or Mazzy Star?
Those are also both on mine, along with some Mark Lanegan and some Pearl Jam (who is AWESOME to birth to).

Em, married to Alex, mom to Samantha (11 yrs) and Cullen (5yrs) and Maybe (5/16/2010) Trying to grow 4,000lbs of produce on .2 acres. See my blog!

This time I've felt really into Iron & Wine so I think I might play them, but I guess we'll see!

No recommendations here but I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one who failed at the hypnobabies homestudy. I stopped about a month ago during the 4th class and haven't listened to any of them since then.

Is there any way to cram?!

I made a labor playlist that has a lot of Neko Case, The New Pornographers, and The Watson Twins. Not chanty as such, but what I suspect would work well for me.

another failure at hypnobabies...maybe for my next babe?

i loved ben harper's blessed to be a witness in my last weeks of pregnancy as well as lullaby by dixie chicks - both were great for some emotional release with DH in earlier labor...slow dancing together and letting tears flow thinking of emotions of meeting baby, our last hours sharing a body together, etc. (ok making me teary again!)

then for later labor, loved om sanctuary - like a solid hour of deep om sounds that were very relaxing for me...especially if you've listened to it before during yoga/savasana as i have for years.

Happily married to DH since 2007, mama to my sweet water baby boy, born at home on 5/3/10!

Just so you don't feel too badly about it... I completed the hypno babies study and did the maintenance religiously and it didn't help me at all during birth I guess I'm a hypno babies failure too although just another way.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'm not a chanty kinda person, but for some reason this I need that, lol. My iPod is full of primarily older metal and some 80s hair bands. Maybe I make a play list one and a play list two. One with some chanty relaxation and the other with my ACDC and Iron Maiden, just in case I can't find any zone. :-)
