I am 3 weeks out from birth and my perineum still hurts and it still feels heavy down there. I had no tears there but am wondering if the muscles inside got pretty beat up?

Granted it was a VBAC of a 9lb 10oz baby and 2+ hours of pushing.

Is anyone else having this issue?? I am taking hot baths daily for relief. When will the discomfort go away??

I had the same heavy feeling and mine was due to a slightly prolapsed uterus. I can feel my cervix not far inside, but my OB thinks it will move up. Not sure if that helps but just my exp.

I'm 5 weeks pp and at 4 weeks I was still having discomfort. I rested a lot for about 4 days straight and it really helped. A week later I'm feeling totally normal down there

It's probably from the pushing. I pushed hard for 45 min with DS1 and I felt very heavy and weak afterwards. I think it went away after four or five weeks - I know I felt better by my six-week visit.

Home water birthing, non-circing, delayed vaxing, co-sleeping, babywearing, extended nursing Mommy to DS1 5/08, DS2 5/10 and wife to sweetest hubby ever.

This is very reassuring. Thank you lady's. I'm getting nervous that the heaviness hasn't gone away but I think I just need more time to allow for more healing.

I pushed for 3 hrs with my DD and definitely had that heavy feeling for weeks and weeks afteward. This time, with DS, I pushed for 2.5 hrs, but no heavy feeling since a few days post-birth. I have been taking homeopathic Arnica for pain and swelling and I think it really helped! You might want to try it!

The best homepathic remedies for this are:

Arnica for bruising and soreness
Hypericum for the perineum if you had damage to it or an episiotomy

and of course Kegals
