Anyone have helpful tips about tent camping with a 5 week old. We currently have a 2 person backpacking tent and sleep on backpacking thermarest pads with down sleeping bags. Thinking we may need a bigger tent, at least one bigger pad and possibly different blankets?

Miscarriage at 6 weeks on 1/11/09, DS born on 6/22/10, DS born on 5/31/12, and new baby due 4/2/14

we moved up to a larger tent when camping with our first. more room to hang out if it rains, change babe, etc. i also moved to a blanket system v. sleeping bags. just makes nursing so much easier. wealso moved to an air mattress once the babes were about 1.5. have fun!

we skip the air mattress because i'm paranoid about them losing air with such a little one on it. i'd also do blankets vs a down sleeping bag......too many smothering risks for me!! other than that, we've camped in a little tent with a baby and a dog.....its doable!

My 2 wk old has spent more nights in a tent then inside a house thus far. What has worked for us is a firm foam mattress for me and her, and quilt/sheet combo for us. I also dress her in a sleep-sack for extra warmth. I also agree that you'll likely need a larger tent now. Happy camping!

Mom of 5: dd (10), ds (8) & dd2 (4), my sweet baby son born still 3/2/09, and celebrating the arrival of our dd 5/7/10.
