I went from not showing at all to a gradual increase over the past 3 weeks. Today, I woke up and swear I look about 36 weeks. I don't see my DH in the am so when I got home, he laughed at how big I was (not in a mean way but amazed at how big his little "ball" has gotten in 24 hrs).
Anyway, I don't think my skin can keep up with this kind of stretch and I'm scared to think of how big I'll be at 40 weeks!

You will stretch Some women will swear by certain lotions/oils/ointments with certain vitamins added to rub on your skin x amount of times per day to prevent stretchmarks. I read somewhere (sorry no links with my stooopid smartphone) that stretchmarks are a heriditary disposition, so if your Mom/sister(s) got marks, you will more than likely have them too. (Someone def peed in my gene pool when it came to my skin's elasticity, lol)

I think staying well hydrated, and your normal lotion/oil/ointment routine will be the best course. Besides who doesn't like the few extra moments to massage and pamper one's skin?

Or you could end up like me and not have any stretch marks at all, even with a 60lb weight gain.

Oh my! That's rough! And meanwhile I bemoaned getting stretch marks after 40 weeks (ds took his time in the womb and didn't appear until nearly 42 weeks), but at least I was still pregnant (and sheesh - I grew a lot in that last week and a half).

It's interesting how the old stretch marks are so much more visible now than they were for the past few years.

I'm having the same experience though as the OP in terms of the sudden expansion - barely a belly at all 2 or 3 weeks ago and now I'm crashing it into things when I miscalculate how much I stick out in front.

I agree that the best hope is with good hydration and oils in your diet, but nothing beats genetics.

Good luck!

I think it's that time. The fellow that owns the coffee shop across the street from my office said to me "You wont be that little much longer, you are now entering the blow up zone." He's right, sometimes I swear I can actually feel it get bigger in a matter of a few hours!

Totally -- my ab muscles/round ligaments are so sore today! I feel like the baby must be having the biggest growth spurt. That, and so much more wiggling. Yow!

I actually had two people tell me today "Wow, you definitely look pregnant now!" I didn't really know how to take that... I don't know if it's stretching, or my little one pressing her head or hand against me, but to the right of my belly button I felt a weird pain the other day, and now it feels bruised when I touch it...

Hey, that happened to me, too! And then it kind of went away but every once in a while feels tender still. I don't know--I don't think it's really serious; I forgot to bring it up at my mw visit today but then noticed that spot was a little sore for a second tonight. It comes and goes tho so I think it's when the babe is pushing against and then I rub up against it at the same time or smth. Let me know if you figure it out! Mine is on the right side, too a little toward the "top" of my uterus.

BUT I got all ginormous out of nowhere, too. I just looked chubby and now I'm poppin! So round---I feel like a lollipop, lol.

Happy and in love with my family!

When it first happened, I thought maybe she was just stretching or somehow pushing REAL hard in one spot, and maybe it bruised a little??? Maybe the top right is where her head or hand is... It's better now, so whatever it was, I'm sure it's nothing too drastic...

I am with you. I feel like I just ballooned in the past three weeks. Weird! Well, at least this must be normal. But I am worried about how big I will be at 40 weeks too.

I feel like I just blew up too. It seems like I spread a little more after every glass of water or meal, especially in the evenings. I've been wearing sweaters, shawls and big blazers at work, but the jig is up. It's going to be interesting to see their faces when I let it all hang out next week and finally announce.
