Anyone made a birth mix yet? I am still navigating what I will do about listening to the Hypnobabies cd's during labor - but I have started put my mix together. I realize this is a pretty personal choice, but I was just curious about what other mamas were choosing for their songs/artists! I could use some ideas! Enya seems like a good choice...

Sigur Ros all the way. So many of their songs sound like a baby being born.

DH and I are expecting twins July 15. Holy crap wish us luck.

Hmm, I haven't even thought about it! I'm not sure music would be helpful to me - I was in such a great zone with DDs birth, really just gazing at the mountains and doing what I could to take me out of myself, rather than the kind of internal focus that music usually gives me.

But if I had to choose, I would probably be thinking about tunes that go with my happy moments in life - some Simon & Garfunkel, Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World...I dunno, happy, upbeat, but not too spicy, I guess!

I'm not sure yet. Either we'll play records (there is just something about vinyl), or Dh will create a play list in iTunes and we'll play that (probably just include all my favorites from lots of different artists), or I'll play the Anne of Green Gables sound track to the mini-series which I love.

Ha! I just worked on this yesterday!

I have a "Jenny's Summer Baby" playlist going which is mostly reggae. My early labor (or until I have to stop and focus on labor) plan is to bake a cake and listen to reggae with my family! Love it! Upbeat, but mellow too. Have about 25 songs and I have a good friend who has a ton of music and is going to make me some more reggae mixes to add to it.

Then I have a "Jenny's Meditation" playlist, which is for that focusing time. Mostly devotional music- Sunyata, Deva Premal, and Snatam Kaur, in that order. Sunyata is a little spicier, and will good to motivate me into a deeper place. The other two have such soothing voices, just beautiful and peaceful. They are played at my prenatal yoga, so it takes me to a relaxing place quickly.

JENNY, 38~ preschool teacher, birth activist, sun worshiper, singer, married for 17 years and mom to

I told DH it will be his job to put together my mix. I think I will want a variety.

I'm thinking my mix will be reggae heavy too. Upbeat and mellow, soothing and happy! This will be good for the first stage and maybe pushing baby out when I'll be so psyched and excited to finally get to meet him/her.

Other than my favourite reggae tunes, I'm not sure. Music can have such an emotional effect on me that I think I need to be careful what I choose to play and when to play it. I have a feeling that when I get deep into labour I won't want any music, just silence.

Mine's all Jewish music (and all VERY calm relaxing), but I'm loving that this will be (hopefully) the third time I use the same playlist!

Loads of blessings, and learning on the job.

I think I'm going with Jen Mas, one of my favorite hardstyle DJ's. I think I'm going to want something full of energy.

I don't have a playlist yet, but I think I'll be putting this in, and asking DH to skip to it (I'll probably have to use an iPod) right when Fiona's about to be born. The tugging and stuff (I'm having a c/s) is one of the things I'm most freaked out about, and I think I'd like all the positive associations that come with this music to accompany Fiona's "birth moment."

I always cry when I hear it, happy tears, I played it for all my babies when I nursed them for the first time.

I am having a c/section as well, my second twin c/section.

Snatam Kaur is one of my favorites aswell. Very relaxing. I've been working on this playlist thing aswell. Hoping to use Pandora.com too, you can put in a song you like and they will give you other songs like it. I love it. Pearl jam has a new song out...Breathe. Its beautiful. If you like that music.

Oh, Pandora is a good idea! Only thing I worry about that is if you aren't active at the computer it turns off after a while.

You can set it not to do that. On a Mac I think it is under energy saver settings. You can set it to never fall asleep.

You can also download an awesome (and free) utility called "Caffeine" that won't let your computer go to sleep. You just click a coffee cup in your menubar, and it "fills up" - keeping your computer awake. When you don't need it on all the time anymore, click it again to "empty it." http://lightheadsw.com/caffeine/

Loads of blessings, and learning on the job.

I spent a weekend working on my lists. Since I don't know exactly what I'll be in the mood for, and it will probably change throughout the different stages of labor (and I usually labor for a LONG time), I've made a bunch of different lists. I have my "Favorites", of course, but I had my brother & DH help make a "Kick A@!" list as well- with songs like "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" and other loud, screaming, fast-paced music with good rhythm; I made an "Uber Mellow" list with some Nora Jones-type stuff; I also have an "upbeat pop" list and a list of "singable" songs. I figure this way I'm covered whatever mood hits me, and I can always have DH skip or jump to or repeat songs or even turn it off if I feel it.

Wife to since '98; Homeschooling, working on my doctorate & becoming crunchier by the day; Mom to DSs: 06/10,12/05, & 1/99 & 1 on the way (3/15)

My last birth I carefully programed a playlist into my i-pod, thuroughly thought out and planned.....In labor, anytime it wasn't playing Enya I got frustrated, pulled myself out of laborland and clicked ahead till I found another Enya song and then went back to laborland. This time I'll just have it play Enya.

DH&Me  Christ follower, homeschooler, gardener, (insert lots of additional crunchiness here) chicken mama, & occasionally blogger. intactlact.gifMama of  boys 9,7,3.5,&11months....& SURPRISE jaw2.gif  expecting a BOY in November!  7 sweet-babes gone too soon.
