We are having our third child, a baby girl, due July 4th, and we have never had so much trouble with a name. DH barely likes anything, so at least that narrows it down pretty quickly, and it doesn't help that I like names that are a bit, well, different. What do you think?

Oakley Elizabeth

Penelope Elizabeth (we would call her by a nickname, either Poppy, Pip, Nellie, or Piper)

Would love to know what you think! : )

I think both are cute! However, I like Penelope the best... but if you were going to shorten it to Piper, why not just go with Piper Elizabeth? My friend named her DD Piper, it was the first time I have ever heard of it, I love the name.

A wife to A, unschoolen mom to C (7), T (3) & little A (9 months).

Definitely Penelope! That's a great name with a host of great nicknames. I don't care for Oakley. All I can think of are sunglasses. It doesn't seem like a name at all, especially for a baby girl.

I like them both equally. But some of those nick names for Penelope are pretty cute...

Penelope, all the way! It's classic and not trendy, terrific choice (although I don't get why you would name her that and then call her something else, but that's just me.)

Oakley just sounds like someone's last name.

Penelope! I love it! Also love all the options for nicknames. These will be great for her if she goes through the stage of changing her name frequently.

Loving mama to Aden (8/5/2010) and DSD (15).

This is SUCH a help! Thank you!! Been leanning towards Penelope - DH likes it better, and since we can't even decide on a nickname yet, Penelope gives us a name that we both like and we can take some time thinking about what nickname to give her. Thank you all so much for taking the time to help!

Oh I'm about to cry!! I love Penelope Elizabeth so much!! So glad you might use it! If we had two more daughters they'd be Noelle Soleil and Penelope Elizabeth- I was hoping for twin girls because I love these names!! but we are having one boy!

I LOVE Poppy as a nickname and that's what we would've used. The kids like Nell and Nelly as nicknames too. There are so many nicknames that she'll be able to choose them at different ages to suit herself.

I do not like Oakley for a girl.

JENNY, 38~ preschool teacher, birth activist, sun worshiper, singer, married for 17 years and mom to

Karan 15, Fiona 12, Bodhi 10, Bjorn 6, Devon 3, and Robin Taylor born January 16th!

DDCC - have you ever seen the movie Penelope?

IMO that is a great name to bear, a woman who grew strong enough to love herself despite a physical problem causing everyone else to hold her back.

I much prefer that name over one that makes me think part of LA or sunglasses.

Artist, photographer, stay-at-home-mom and Marine wife. Mom to 4; a boy and three little girls.
