So.....Mitchell Anthony is now 12 days old, I think I have a minute to share our story. I had irregular contractions all day July 4th. I woke up on July 5th feeling nothing, I went for a walk, came home to shower and started having contractions every 7-8 minutes. the intensity and frequency increased quickly and we were off to the hospital around 11ish. I was 8 cm dilated by the time we arrived and completely effaced. When we got up to the room they had the tub ready. I labored in the tub for a few hours until I got antsy, I paced for a few minutes, got back in the tub, and quickly gave birth to my beautiful baby boy. The midwife handed him over right away and right off the bat he was nursing like a champ.

I was GBS positive and they were not able to get 4 hrs of abx in me so they had to test baby's blood. We spent the firsy 24 hrs in perfect bliss and then were told that his blood culture was growing bacteria. He was whisked away to the nicu, they drew more blood, tapped for spinal fluid, and started him on heavy duty abx for menengitis. 48 long hours later they send us home because it turns out my perfect little baby is indeed perfect, but the blood culture was contaminated.

I'm so sad this happened, but it is protocal at the hospital. I was so grateful to be there when DS was born premature, but angry/frustrated/sad about this experience.

I'm glad your labor went well, but am so sorry to hear about the NICU scare, that sucks.

Congratulations on the birth of your lovely baby and great initial breastfeeding. It sounds like your body laboured really well and the bath was a great help. Sorry to hear of the NICU intervention bit. It's good to know you're home now with your little munchkin getting to know each other. Take care of yourself.

Me + Dh = Dd1(9.5 yrs) + Dd2(7 yrs) and Ds(4.5 yrs)

So sorry for the stressful ending. Sounds like it was a pretty quick and easy delivery. Hospital should really test and retest before doing something as intense and risky as a spinal test.

Oh, I hate that what sounds like a perfect hospital birth was spoiled by the NICU mix-up and intervention . I'm glad you're both home safe and healthy, though. I'm sure that your love and care will make up for the interrupted start.

Guerrabug! I'm so happy to hear an update from you.

I glad that you had a great birth experience and about what you and your son had to go through afterwards.

Hope to hear more from you when you get a chance!

Happy and in love with my family!
