So we just found out we are having our fourth little girl and I have been working on names and need help! We are looking for names that start with M. Dh likes the name Madeline, I like it but, I think it's getting a little too common. I like the name Madigan but dh says it sounds like mad again. We already have a Morgan. Any suggestions? Oh, middle name will be Ruth after my late mil.

Mom to three girls 14, 11, 9, and 1 more Girl on the way 8/8/2010!

I have a Mary, so I'm partial to that one.

I know a lovely girl named Madigan. I've never heard anyone tease her about her name.

I've started to become fond of the name Matilda. Old fashioned but not too "out there". I think it's pretty.

When we were naming our Mary, I also liked Marina. Hubby says that's where you park your boat, but I still say it's a nice name.

Have fun picking out a girl's name! To me, that's much more fun than boys' names.

I like Madeline.

For what it's worth, I can't remember where I read it but, basically it said that name popularity isn't what it was 20 years ago. There variety of names being used these days is so huge that even if you pick the most popular name it's unlikely that they will be one of 5 named that in their class (like I was).

M names are hard...

Madigan sounds like a last name. Or an Irish bar.

I like Martha or Miriam.

I know someone who just named their daughter Matilda. I like that it can be shortened to Mattie or Tilda.

If you like Maggie, there's also Magdalene, which can be shortened. One of my coworkers named his daughter Margaret, and as far as I know, she doesn't have any nicknames yet. Maggie Ruth is cute.

Also, there is

Mavis
May
Maeve
Millicent (Millie)
Marisol
Miranda

Amy (34): mommy to DD1 (11/07) and DD2 (7/10), wife, wohm, and wannabe suburban homesteader.

I know a woman named Myrica (MEER-ik-a). She was unnamed for a month until her botanist parents saw the genus name Myrica in a book about ferns.

We had Matilda/Mattie on our list but it seems like it's becoming too popular.

Marion is one of my favorites. Old, classic, but not popular.

Moira is also nice...both have the meaning "wished-for child."

I think any name starting with M and ending with n will be too similar to Morgan. I like the nickname Maggie a lot myself, so any of the long versions of that.

Really?!

I live near Ann Arbor and I don't know a single Matilda. Since I can't use it, I'm happy to hear that others are!

I have a cousin named Marisa (Said mar-e-sa) and I always thought that was lovely. I also like the names Marybelle, Marjorie, and Marlene. Good luck. We will soon be racking our brains for our little one too. Hopefully after we narrow down the possible pool by half when we find out the gender next week.

I like Maryn, Marina, or Martine. The women I've met with these names are strong, confident, kinds and intelligent.... so that's what personality traits they make me think of.

I like some of the names already mentioned:
Mirabelle
Mariah
Mary
Mara
Maya
Mia

If this one had been a girl, Mariah was definitely near the top of my list.
Happy choosing!

A name we're considering for our baby girl is Margaret. We'd call her Maggie.

Wife, Mother and Doula.
