I was wondering if any of you have done a baby naming ceremony before, and what you did for this?
We are Christian, and will be baptizing our DS in October, but we decided to do it at the church in Portugal where my DH's family is from and have been baptized, married, and buried for generations. DH's close family will all be there, but other than my brother, no one from my family will be able to join us, due to the distance.
In several weeks, a close family friend from the West Coast is flying out, and will be visiting family. We used the name of her newly deceased husband as DS's middle name, so it would be really nice if we could do something special baby-name-related to recognize this. We'd be inviting family, plus close friends to anything that we did.
One thing I thought of was seeing if we could have our baby "dedicated" at church, but our pastor does not like doing dedications, so I am not sure that we'd be able to do that. I've been reading up on "Zeved habat" which is the Jewish naming ceremony for girls, but there seems to be many different forms of the ceremony, so not much inspiration there, either!
Suggestions???? Personal experiences?
