So at 39+3 weeks Cade Michael finally made his entrance into the world - 28 1/2 hours after my water broke He was 7 lb even (a full pound bigger than DS2) and 21 inches. I'll have to write up an official birth story later this week, but I somehow managed to have both the world's longest and shortest labors all at the same time. My water was broken for 27 hours without a single spontaneous contraction and I was an hour and a half away from a hospital transfer. My midwife had spent the entire day with me trying everything in the book to get labor started (herbs, accupressure, breast pump, castor oil, you name it) with no success, so at 7 p.m. I agreed that if things weren't rocking and rolling by 9 p.m. we'd transfer to the hospital. She checked me at 7:30 just to see where things were (the very first vag exam I'd had) and was 4 cm/50% effaced, still no contractions. Had a nice little sob about going to the hospital, had to go to the bathroom to let the castor oil do it's thing, and hey was that a contraction? Didn't want to even think it was possible because I didn't want to get disappointed so I went downstairs with hubby and the midwife, where I had another "imaginary" contraction. Had a few more of those and all of a sudden I'm kneeling on the floor having what reminded me very much of transition contractions, but that couldn't be possible because I was only 4 cm half an hour ago. Even took the midwife by surprise when I said "Uh, I'm pushing..." and at 9:05 he made his entrance. So I went from 4 cm to baby in an hour and a half. Add in a 31-week preemie with #1 and the midwife making it just in time to catch #2, and it's very clear I'll never be a "textbook" birther.

Being ordinary is for mortals. Go you! I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I have 'dramatic' births too.

My advice may not be appropriate for you. That's ok. You are just fine how you are and I am the right kind of me.
