Mine started a high leak during labor and then the mw decided to break it "more" I guess. But technically, it did break on its own, probably somewhere around 5-6 cm.

#1 was induced with amniotomy at 4 cm.

#2 must have broke during labor but no one remembers it. Probably during transition?

#3 slow leak 4 hours before labor began.

#4 - We'll see.

I agree that they are just trying to say that the movie scene with a flood and then a mad dash to the hospital is not common.

I was reading a fascinating article (but I can't seem to find it now!) about how doctors like to break your water because it will speed up labor, but that doing so dramatically increases the chance of a cord prolapse. Also, a lot of the time, there are major blood vessels in the wall of the amniotic sac, and by breaking it with their hook thingie, they could damage one and cause dangerous bleeding.

this is me. Mine broke for every pregnancy (which is 2) way before labor started. For me it was like the movie thing except I didn't go into labor. 1st one took me 46hours and the 2nd 60hours before I had even one contraction. I want to see what is going to happen with this 3rd one.

My water broke on it's own... but it was moments before my baby came flying out... I wouldn't wait for that to go to the hospital or call the midwife.

DDCC too...

Mine broke sometime while I was hanging out in the tub during labor... At least, when we called the midwife to come on over she checked me and wanted me to get out of the tub because of that (I was at 8 cm then).
