So I happened across this in a thread but i forget which one/where so uh

apparently mothers intuition on babys size is usually closer than even an ultrasound.

Did you find this to be true about your baby or past children... that they were pretty close to the size you expected?

I hope this is true because right now I feel like Mae is only nearing 8 pounds.

Hmmm, I knew my first two would be large...at 9.13 and 9.5 they were no slouches. I knew my third would be smaller than the first two and he was at 8.2. I have no feeling on this one except that he'll be larger than my third. That's as accurate as a guess as I can give though.

I was convinced Ellie would be about 8.12-8.14; she probably would have been, if she had stayed in for at least 40 weeks. As it was, she was decent-sized at 38w1d at 7lbs 15.9oz.

I before E, except after C.  Weird.
DD: 8/2010.

I fully believe this to be true. With DS, my OB kept telling me he was going to be close to 12 lbs. I completely blew him off because I just felt it to be a scare tactic. When I was in labor, they did an u/s and said he would be 9.5 at least. Again, I said I didn't think so. When he came out a few hours later, he was 7lbs 15 oz.

Once again, I am facing the same thing. OB keeps trying to scare me with stories of big babies and GS and macrosomia despite the fact that I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks where the tech stated very great feeling that this baby is completely average in size. All along, I have felt like this one will be a little smaller than DS because of my very controlled diet. If she turns out to be bigger than him, it's only because at this point, she's been inside for a full week longer than he was and doesn't seem to be coming out any time soon. Still, I expect her to be very average size.

Wife to Brian , mother to Xander 10/26/05 and new squishy, Claire 9/26/10 .

Unfortunately, I have NO intuition on the weight. It's all coming from my brain, not my intuition.

DD#1 was 8lbs 1oz at 42 weeks. In this pregnancy, I've been eating better and weigh about 22 pounds less than I did at this point with DD. I feel way more uncomfortable, but that could just because everything is so stretched out. So who knows? I guess I would be surprised if she were 9 or more or less than 7.5, so that's as close as I can get to a gut feeling.

Both my previous doctor (who was more midwife than OB) and my current doctor say that statistically this is true. The best way to predict the weight of a baby in utero is to ask the mom.

I remember thinking that my third would be huge but she was only 9lb7oz. She was also posterior and pushing horribly on a nerve in my back/hip. I knew my second was really big, she was 10lb4oz. My first was hard because I just felt like a whale due to my 70 pound weight gain. Yikes. She was 8lb12oz.

I wasn't even close! Thought 8 lbs 8 oz, and the end of the month. He came 3 days early, wieghing just 6 lbs 14 oz. Shocked everyone, we all thought he would be bigger!

#1 - I was blinded by my OB's and being told he was too big (induced at 37 weeks because of it)...
#2 - I said 7-8lbs and she was 7.5lbs
#3 - My guess is right around 9lbs... We'll know soon...

My midwife and OB both thought ds would be around 7-7.5 pounds. In the delivery room the dr and nurses were taking guesses (all between 6lb-7.5 pounds). I KNEW ds would be bigger than that. I guessed 8.5 lbs. They all laughed and told me no way (he was born at exactly 39 weeks so he still had potential cooking time left). When he was born there was a collective gasp. LOL! He was just shy of 9lbs.

Totally true for me. Midwife kept saying around 7 lbs. I knew DS was a big kid. I was guess 8-8.5 lbs. He was 8 lbs 12.5 oz. This one I don't have as strong of a feeling about. I'm overthinking it probably. she feels "big" but I can't keep myself from trying to figure out if she's bigger or smaller than I remember her brother feeling at this point.

#1--I had no idea.

#2--I *knew* she was big, even though my OB said no bigger than mid-8s. She was 9-8.
#3--I was guessing close to 10lbs, but I had a dream that he was 9-3. He was 9-5. Incidentally, I had an u/s 2 days before his birth which estimated him at 9-7. Pretty darn good, I'd say!

DD1- I guessed around 8 lbs (although, I was not super surprised when she was 10lbs, 5 oz as both DH and I were just around 10 lbs.)

DD2- I thought around 10 lbs and she was 9 lbs 12 oz. (I started out 15 lbs lighter and gained 20 lbs less with her and everyone thought the baby was going to be much smaller....)

SAHM to Chloe«- 6/2008 (10 lbs, 5 oz), Hannah- 9/2010 (9 lbs, 12 oz), Liam- 2/2013 (9 lbs, 6 oz)

Until this baby, I've never had much intuition on size before.

But I just KNEW this baby was going to be big. I had no reason, outwardly, to think so. I measured right on, each and every week, until right before delivery when I measured a few weeks small (because he was LOW.) I didn't look any bigger than ever before in pregnancy. I only gained 25 lbs. I didn't FEEL any different. In fact, I felt relatively great since my SPD didn't kick in until the very last weeks. Midwife guessed about 9 or 9 1/2 lbs. No diabetes.

But I kept saying, "This baby is going to be B.I.G." I kept saying I felt like he'd be over 10 lbs. I always called him (we didn't know the gender) "the big baby" as in, "Honey, mama can't get down on the floor to play that game because I have a big baby in my tummy."

And boy was he big. 11 lbs 15 oz. I KNEW he would be big. I certainly didn't guess that large but who ever in their right mind would???

I knew that this one would be smaller than my previous two, I was guessing upper 7lbs, around 8lbs. She was 7lbs 4oz and surprised us all, even the midwives guessed 8lbs before they weighed her. With DD#1 and DS, I thought they would both be mid 8lbs, close to 9lbs. I had read somewhere that if you add Mom and Dad's birth weights and divide, you're close to babies weight, with me at 7.6 and DH at 10.11, around 9lbs seemed reasonable. And they were both, 8lbs 10oz and 8lbs 15oz, which DD#2 isn't even at yet at two weeks!

Doesnt' work for us! I was 7-12 at 38w, and DH was 9-0 at 43w. #2 and #3 were both larger than either of us at birth, though both were 41w.

for my ex and my children (both in the 7lb range) it would be way off doing that.

I was 9lbs and he was over 11.

Not for me. I thought my first was huge, he was 6#15 (but I had polyhydramnious (aka excessive amniotic fluid) which made me look huge. I thought my second would be low 7's, she was 8lbs. I initially thought that this baby was small, now that I'm almost 42 weeks, I'm a bit worried that she is upwards of 9 lbs.

The dividing thing doesn't work for me, either. Dh was a 34wk twin, and weighed 4lb4oz. I was every bit of full term and was 8lb8oz. Our babies have been well over 8lbs. He AND his brother weighed 9lbs together, so I guess maybe taking the average of THAT would be a bit more accurate, but...
