6 weeks, and we're still waiting. It's probably a totally normal wait, but the gov website said it only takes a week for my state (AZ). I'm paranoid about his card getting stolen, and I need that number to enroll him in some programs. Are we all still waiting?

I got mine at like 2 weeks. I'd call them and make sure there is no hang up.

Well, the card wasn't stolen. Went to get his birth cert today... and there is no record of my son at all. So, either my midwife REALLY messed up, or the state did.
I have my last pp appt with the MWs tomorrow, already left a message telling them about this. The vital records office basically had no clue what to do when I asked them how I go about fixing this issue - they said it's the MW's job to submit the paperwork (duh). But seeing as it is WEEKS past the deadline... I have a son, I need a BC for him and an SSN.
I am super POed right now, but hopefully it will be a simple enough fix.

Oh you hadn't gotten your birth certificate either? We got that a few weeks ago but still waiting on the SS card. I'll probably call next week since it's been a month.

We are still waiting on the SSN. We submitted the paperwork for the birth certificate when she was 2 weeks old. Our MW filed out the stuff and we brought it to the county records department to file it. Our MW also warned us that with homebirths around here they tend to take forever to get the SSN. Oh well, I don't think we need it yet, we were able to get her on our insurance without it.

I called to find out about the birth certificate so that I can get him on medicaid since he's not covered under me (already have a bill for the hospital) and I can't get him in to see a doc until he gets on it.. well they told me that it'll take 6-12 MONTHS to get the birth certificate in the mail!!!!! I couldn't believe that! So I have no idea how long the SSN takes. With DD I had it all in hand within a month (or sooner)

Luckily DS2 is on our insurance, did not need a BC or the SSN for it. However, for other benefits that my company has, I need the SSN or the BC.

And pffffff, went to the vital records website. In order to get a delayed BC, I need prrof that I was in state when he was born, and that he was in state. That means a utility bill / medical record in my name in September. Good thing he was born at the beginning of the month and that I took him for a well baby visit. Also, it's a good thing that all the bills and the benefits are in my name. WTF do people do if the bills are in the husband's name?

Almost 7 weeks and we are still waiting, too. I think I looked online and our state averaged a 9-week wait so I'm not worried, yet.

The certified copies of the birth certificate came about a week after I mailed off the form and money for them, so at least that was fast.

I haven't gotten anything yet. I mailed everything in at 3 1/2 wks and she's over 6 wks now. Since I do online banking I did notice that they got the money for the birth certificate though.

We haven't gotten ours yet. It went in with the birth certificate, which was filed 9/27, so it's been about a month since it was filed. We went and picked up the birth certificate from the county directly, rather than waiting for it by mail, as I needed it to get her on our insurance. And, fwiw, they said I could use the "one the hospital gives with her foot prints..." Hrm... she wasn't born in the hospital

I guess there are a lot of homebirths in AZ, because the vital records website has all the how-tos for getting a BC for a baby not born in the hospital. Yay.
Still waiting just for the BC over here... I'm hoping that the one troublesome piece of paper did not get mailed back to my MW a THIRD time.

I finally called Social Security today since it has been 6 weeks. They said it was processed on the 20th so I should have it soon. But man, navigating through their voicemail maze was really aggravating!

I just heard from our midwives today that it often takes 3 months, but not to call until it's been four!! So apparently, this delay is normal. Luckily I got the birth certificate, or insurance would be an issue!
