Okay, this sounds really weird to me but I mentioned it to a friend the other day and she told me she had heard of it before, so I am going to ask about it here.

Do you ever hear a sound when your baby kicks or punches? Something like a bubble popping sound? Or a knuckle cracking? or flicking at plastic?

For the past few days, I can sometimes (a few times a day) hear a sound at the exact moment that baby kicks or punches me. Isn't that odd?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant.

What is it?

I hear it and did with DD too. I've heard a couple of explanations:

1) Baby's joints are cracking
2) Its the sound of the two layers of the sac rubbing or clicking apart from each other

I've been hearing the same thing for the past week or so (I'm 34 and change today). No idea what it is...wondered if the baby could be burping in there.

Yup. It's a real weird Feel/Hear sensation but it's definitely multi-sensory for me Pretty groovy 'cause we are the only one that can 'hear' the baby before it's born

DDCC -

happens every pregnancy with me... nothings wrong (and as far as we know the most reasonable explaination is the amniotic sac rubbing on the chorionic sac)

I'm 34 weeks on Friday and I've been hearing it too. Sometimes it's almost like my stomach is growling and other times it's little crackles and snaps. Glad to know I'm not imagining things, though it does make me wonder just what she's doing in there...

This is very reassuring. This is my third child but I don't recall anything like this with my first two. I'm so glad to hear that it's not just me! LOL!

I haven't heard anything with either pregnancy.

Is it an actual sound or is it just your brain interpreting a sensation as a sound?

YES! I've noticed it on several occasions over the last couple of weeks but thought I must be imagining it.

now that im so ginormous (is that a real word) I can hear my stomach fluid sloshing around if i have a "big meal" (aka more than a few bites) because I literally running out of room. Its a weird sensation but its basically the baby pressing up against my insides and the sound of my digestion fluids...yay

yeah i had the joint-cracking sound with DS, he was pretty big and cramped though, it was his little hips cracking when he kicked out, midwife heard it and when he was born he did it in the hospital once or twice as he was "uncurling" like a little butterfly too cramped in his cocoon lol

not heard it with this babe, so im hoping it means she's smaller hehe

Crazy! Never experienced this, but I will be listening more closely now

I did have my DS5 kick me so hard while he was in utero that he gave me a bruise on the outside of my belly!! My mw acted like that was nuts, but I swear it is true!

Tracey, mama of 5 beloved children here with me on Earth and one precious son I will meet again in Heaven 6/17/09 - 9/6/09.

I've been hearing it, too. I don't remember hearing it with either of my previous pregnancies. Everything I've read says it's strange, but not associated with any problems.

DS born 6/03, DD1 born 9/06, DD2 born 10/10, DD3 born 4/14.

It would be impossible for it to be the actual baby, right? Because there's no air - and therefore no sound - in the amniotic sac?

But the two sacs rubbing against each other maybe?

It is definitely a real sound, but I have only heard it when in a room with no music or TV on, it's not extremely loud, but clearly, it comes from the baby's movement, in one way or another.

I agree that it doesn't make sense that the baby would make this sound with his/her mouth or anything, but the sacs slapping against each other or knuckles or joints cracking sound rather plausible to me.

The whole thing is odd! LOL! But it's happened to me repeatedly, and it doesn't hurt or anything, so I know it's actually happening.

I know. It's so bizarre, but it's happened to me at least 2x/week for the last few months. It's kinda neat too. It's just funny that this is the first time in 6 pregnancies that it's happened and this is the first I can recall anyone else mentioning this phenomenon or anything similar.

I heard this with my last pregnancy ... it was very crackly sounding and sure enough DD had crackling joints for a while after birth.
