Okay mamas.. Tell me what you think..

So I had an appointment with my midwife today and if I don't go into labor on my own by next weekend they want to induce because of the single artery umbilical cord.

So I asked my midwife if there was anything I could do on my own to help labor along and she said I could try accupuncture but that I should maybe wait until Monday to start.

So I called an accupuncturist in my area that a friend recommended and explained my situation and he wants to see me tomorrow. He says he's helped other women who were going to be induced with good success.

I've never gone to an accupuncturist but I will do anything to reduce the likelihood of a c-section..

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

I've heard positive reports. I think it's a good idea, especially if your MW is on side. Why does she want you to wait until Monday? Will you be full term?

I'd probably do it if it were me. Acupuncture seems like a way better option than a c-section. Good luck.

My midwife with DS swore by it. She said that 9 times out of 10 acupuncture done by the guy she recommended started labour within 12 hours. I didn't try it myself however.

I'd probably combine it with DTD, EPO and maybe even castor oil just to cover all bases. Good luck and I hope all goes really well for you!

Happy mumma to my boys Henny Tom (Nov 30, 2008), Arlo Odie (Oct 5, 2010), and baby SISTER! due mid-Dec 2014.

It can't hurt to try. It seems to have a better success rate than other methods of natural induction I've heard of. Good luck!

I think she said Monday because she's thinking of accupuncture more to prime the cervix for induction at the hospital rather than to cause induction. I will be 38 weeks on Sunday also so maybe that too..

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'm open to anything as long as it's safe and from what I've been reading it seems that it is..

I had my second treatment today with an acupuncturist to try and get my labor started. On one hand, it definitely got some results: I could feel contractions when the pins were inserted, etc. On the other, it was the OPPOSITE of relaxing (which I normally do find acupuncture) and I did just have my second treatment and I'm still not in labor. The acupuncturist manipulated all the pins to get a stronger effect and it was really a dull ache everywhere. It was also kind of pricy. But worth it if I can have this baby soon and avoid induction at the hospital!

^^ Thanks for chiming in! How many weeks are you? How many sessions do they think you will need?

I do seem to see positive success stories for acupuncture but I have no experience with it obviously. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try!

That's really good to know. I just don't want to do anything that's going to stress the baby.
