Hi Jamie,

Thanks so much for the first reading you did for me - I found it very helpful (and relieving!)

My question this time is about my relationship with my mother. It has been strained over the past few years, and getting worse, but I feel like it is one-sided and she is not aware of this. I never tell her exactly how I feel for fear of hurting her/confrontation, but I disagree with many many things she does.

Where do you see our relationship heading in the next few years?

Proud mum to DS (03/07/08) and thrilled to welcome new baby in October '10!

Francey,
This feels like a very delicate situation. Truth be told, I feel like it's more delicate on your end then hers. I get the sense that what you are really afraid of is her rejection, more than hurting her feelings. I feel like you are not giving your Mom enough credit..in several areas. For one, to take the truth and make appropriate changes. Especially when it comes to things she's doing around you/your child that you don't like. If you don't tell her, how's she supposed to know? Passive agressive hinting is not working.
Secondly, even though she does seem to have a somewhat mean edge to her, I feel that she would actually be much more receptive to you than you are thinking.
What I feel is that there is actually a best case scenario out there, that you could achieve should you try. You have given this situation the worst possible case scenario in your head and that is where I think it is going wrong. So where will this go? It all depends on how you handle the situation.
I encourage you to make a move to state the facts. Be strong and clear and go for improving the situation instead of letting the relationship slip away.

Thank you so much. I know that you are right, and that's what I'm afraid of!
