My 2 previous pregnancies I never weighed myself excpet after the baby was born to see where I was at. This time I have been weighing myslef consistently, I think I am more concerned this time because I lost like 45 lbs last year and am more weight-health conscious. I have gained 14lbs so far, and Im 26 weeks, 7 of that has been in the last 4 weeks. How is everyone else doing? I think I gained around 60lbs with my previous 2 ....

My norm to gain is 50-60 a pregnancy.

I just hit the point in pregnancy where I have a huge gain. I'm up 26 pounds. I actually looked up my last pregnancy on here to see what week it was that I had a huge gain, lol, and it was almost exactly the same time from (between 22 and 25 weeks). So that must be my norm. Last time it was a 9 pound leap... this time I'm thinking it was between 6-10, I weigh myself but don't record the numbers much.

Nic, loving mama to 5 with a SURPRISE 6th on the way.

I only gained about 25 lbs with DS.. so far I have gained about 8 lbs I think, but I was sick in the beginning. I don't think I need to gain much though, because I already have plenty of fat stored. I'm really not a big person though, but for my height (5'1") I'm bordering "overweight." Usually around 140-145 lbs not pregnant.

ETA: I am 25 weeks

I've gained 12 so far and am at 24 weeks, but, yeah, I have some reserves too. This is the time in my past 2 pregnancies that I have had big jumps in weight. 9lbs with ds, and 8 with dd (I think).

I think I've gained about 16 lbs so far. I started out the pregnancy at 5'5", 136 lbs (a little overweight for me - I usually weigh about 130), so I'm at 152. I anticipate gaining about 15-18lbs more. I tend to gain anywhere between 27-35 lbs without eating much more than I do non-pregnant. I think, for the most part, our bodies just gain what they need if we have reasonable diets.

no way! i think you are just a tinier person (and maybe taller?) so you need to gain more. If I gained more than 30 lbs it would be very bad.. and everyone is different in terms of what their bodies need. With DS1, I lost all of the baby weight really quickly too, but then gained back 15 lbs over his first year.. breastfeeding every hour around the clock made me put on more weight than being pregnant did! I'm really hoping things are different this time around.. I can't really afford to gain anymore weight! (i mean, other than baby weight)

Not taller, I'm only 5'1 as well. I started out this pregnancy at 125(ish), I still had about 20 pounds on me from my daughter's pregnancy. Our food budget is pretty tight... so I'm know I'm not overeating or making extremely poor choices. Up until about 2 weeks ago I had only gained about 16 pounds. That's a pretty large jump and one hcp always seemed to get upset over in the past but it appears (at least for my last 2 pregnancies) to be normal for me. I'm a little worried that I'll still put on another 30+ pounds... that will be the heaviest I have ever been in my life.

With my first 3 I lost all of the baby weight very quickly, I was back in a size 0 very rapidly... I was also very young. I had #3 barely a month after I turned 22. #4 came along 2 days after I turned 28 and apparently my metabolism was a lot slower after her. I never was able to lose it all...

I had a big jump at some point with DS1 as well.. I can't remember when it was, but I gained something like 12 pounds in 6 weeks. But then didn't gain anything the next 2 times. I miss weighing 125.. haven't seen that weight in about 4 years. But 135-140 is still an ok weight on me.. But I haven't seen that weight since the beginning of my PG with DS1.. I am really determined this time to eat healthier and excersize after DS2 is born. No matter how worn out I am from being up all night! Haha.. we shall see...

I'm almost 24 weeks now and up about 12 pounds. I'm extremely happy about that, as I gained 41 with my first son and it was VERY difficult to lose. I was still up 10 lbs when I got pregnant with this one, so I was hoping to gain less than 30, and I'm on track to do so. Honestly though, I'm not doing anything different really, and think my body just knows I have more reserves this time around

Technically I'm "overweight" by BMI standards (5'6" and about 170 lbs starting off this pregnancy), but I think that's bull and look good at this weight and am a healthy size 10. So I'm not worried about a little extra weight, although I'd LOVE to get back into the mid 150s after this baby is born. I can dream! Breastfeeding just made me hold weight like no other, so I don't expect to lose much after baby is here.

Now I'm scared to tell.

I usually gain about 40-45 lbs during pregnancy. Only 20 with ds but I got down to 105 (I'm 5'5") when pg with him for several reasons and then was 145 when I had him which is 20 lbs. over my "normal".

I've already gained 22 lbs. OMFG. I cried when I weighed myself last. I've been exercising this time, eating healthier than normal (and that's saying something), not eating nearly as much as even pre-pg, I just don't know why I've gained so much. I'm just praying my scale is messed up. Because I pack on the most weight those last couple months.

My mom is usually super tiny. Size 0. She always gained at least 60 with each of the four of us. She always came home in her pre-pg jeans. I'll never forgive her for boasting about that.

I've gained about 10lbs (as of last week), but I was overweight to begin with. I started out at 184 and was 194 last Tuesday. I normally gain about 20-25lbs.

Hmmm I'm not sure how much I've gained, but I'm very small when I'm pregant! I second the person mentioning we'll gain what our bodies need us to gain-- if we are eating healthy food. I'm normally 5'5 and 120 lbs with my 1st I gained 26lbs and with my secon I gained 21lbs, which imo was absolutely nothing!!!!!!!! But I ate and ate and ate and ate and never really had any m/s. So for whatever reason that's how much I seem to gain. This time around I'm not even weighing myself just making sure I make good choices, I anticpate it will be about hte same however it would be nice to havew a little extra for reserves while b/f.

I started off weighing more than i weighed when I was 9 mo. preg. with dd1. Prior to all my pregnancies, I weighed 125 lbs (I'm 5'10). I started off this pregnancy at 178 and as of last week weighed 194. I'm considered "overweight" by BMI standards, too-but I've never been over a size 10. I would like to get to 150 after this babe is born.

No, that would be me at an embarassingly 30 lbs. and counting so far!! I have been so sad after each appointment as the scale keeps creeping up. Like another post said, I don't know where it is all coming from. I am eating well enough and while not exercising like I did with DD (too exhausted and sore not to mention the unending heat wave) I am remaining pretty active. I expected to gain a little more this time, but this is crazy. After this last appointment I am more comitted now to watch what I eat and try and at least walk every day. I just hope this is what is normal for me this time round. We'll see....

I just had a midwife appointment today and found out I have gained about 10-11 lbs at 24 weeks (depending on what you count as my starting weight - I was 119 at 10 weeks but that was at the height of the nausea). With my first pg I hardly gained during the first trimester, gained a little bit during the 2nd tri, and then rapidly gained during the 3rd. I am 5'-5" and 120 pre preg and gained about 35 lbs with my first. I'm a little worried about too little weight gain with this one since this baby has a 2 vessel cord and there is a risk of poor growth associated with that.

My appetite is picking up though! Last night I was full after dinner but hungry again by 10pm.

Weight gain or no, my left ankle is a web of spider veins and what look like the beginning of varicose veins. Nothing on my right leg. Isn't that weird??

I just weighed myself this morning - up 12 pounds at 23 weeks. I was hoping to gain less than 20 pounds this time, as I was about 30 pounds overweight before I got pregnant. I've kind of let go of that, though, and decided to just let my body do what it needs to do

I gained ~30 pounds with my son, and lost it all in the first month. And had gained back a little over 5 pounds before I got pregnant with this one (although I know some of that was boob - I had a miscarriage in between, and I always gain a cup size or two in the first 8 weeks!)

Yes, CNM says I lost a few pounds! I think I might have even taken off my clogs last time, and had my sandals on this time Either way, that's good, b/c I am very overweight right now and of course being stuck in bed had me worrying about weight gaine. I've been snacking a lot on granola bar type things when the pregnancy hunger strikes, but otherwise DH brings be pretty darn healthy food At least there's that!

I gained more than 50 lbs. with my first and I wasn't underweight in the slightest to begin with. This time I started off fairly underweight (from all the nursing, I think) and have already gained about 25 lbs. at 28 weeks. I don't really worry about it because even if the weight doesn't come off as fast this time, I can afford to keep some on. I do hate watching the numbers on the scale creep up every MW visit though!

Edited to add I thought this was October 2010--sorry for crashing your DDC!

I have no idea if it is weird or not, but I'm pretty sure that I have it in my right leg but not my left.

Coming back to say.... I like the scale at the birth center better than at my in-laws--now I think I've gained 11, not 14. Maybe that's the answer to all the weight woes.... find a friendlier scale. Seriously, though, it really seems like your body is going to do what it needs to do, and how we eat is only one factor.
