Its finally NOVEMBER, mamas!! We made it!!

Catie, sorry about your night. I hope your ds doesn't get sick.

Re: EPO...just getting it in there, no matter how far you can push it toward your cervix is fine. Putting it in at night with a pad on also helps it stay where it needs to be.

Heather, so sorry about your dh woes. Mine has been a big grouch lately, too. Sorry about your plumbing issues, too. Things always have a way of breaking at the most inconvienient times, huh?

Julie, sorry about your night, too. I just keep telling myself that once baby comes the RLP and SPD will be a thing of the past. Not much longer now.

Fern, sending stay well vibes your way. Hoping you don't get sick again...goddess knows you've had your share.

Karen, how exciting that your dd will be here by the end of the week!! I'm with Desiree- I want lots of pics and updates!!

AFM: I think I've been through every emotion there is and back again between Saturday and today. My Mother's Blessing was Saturday afternoon and it was beautiful. I feel very much loved and supported by my women and mama friends. Here is my FB link to the photos if you want to check them out. Before the ceremony, my bff gifted me with a Family Tree Glass family pendant with 6 babes on it. The coolest part of the story was that the very day she bought it Nic had posted in one of our chat threads about using a FTG pendant with her birth beads and I had replied that I loved mine (with 5 babes) but that I didn't think they made them with 6 babes. She later read that thread and realized that I didn't already have one. Totally makes it that much more special if you ask me!

Anyone else finding themselves super emotional and crying over very random things lately? I always get a little weepy in the days before I give birth but this is getting a little ridiculous.

Ashley, I have, too. I never realized how difficult it is to brush your teeth while crying inconsolably until about 3 days ago.

Your blessing looks like it was amazing!

I know I've been absent but I swear I read the whole thread! I just never remember exactly what I want to say by the time I am done reading about you chatty mommas!

L&J's mama
: I'm having a hospital birth, too. It isn't ideal but I just keep focusing on how happy I will be at the end of it all. Sending you a lot of love right now! Hang in there!

Heather
: I hate "those" moods, too! Hopefully everything works out with your plumbing. Now is not the time!

On "Crunchy"
: What exactly does "crunchy" mean to you? Granola? Hippie? Just more natural-minded living? I'm so curious, because I've only ever heard it used as an insult amongst hippies before....

On Unschooling/Homeschooling: I am SO INTERESTED in learning more about parents and kids who partake. I am a teacher and have taught pre-sch to Grade9 but I have to say my FAVE years were teaching in a HeadStart preschool for the last little bit. I went as Waldorfy as I could and was able to set my own curriculum based on the seasons. I miss teaching so much! It makes me so excited to think that soon I will be able to teach my LO so much about the world

Oh I destroyed my crotch even further this weekend, but every bit of tile and hardwood in this house has bee swept, vacuumed and mopped.

I replaced another set of disgusting blinds with lovely curtains, too! Our landlord seems to think these horrible blinds are an asset to the property, but to me they are ugly, inconvenient, and gross. Especially the blinds in the kitchen! Does anyone have an easy way to clean (not just dust) horizontal blinds without taking them down?

Feisty Feminist Mama: Breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing, punkrock Fire-Dancer! I live to laugh, love, and create. And then blog about it. So in love with little Des! Born 11/25/10

I hope you have an easy and beautiful birth regardless of the location.

I wonder this too....

AFM ~ First pot of venison stew of the season is on the stove! I just ate a big Hershey's bar before dinner, bad Mommy.

I was reading Susun Weed's Childbearing Years the other day & meant to post because we'd been talking about crab/sugar cravings. She said that it means we need minerals! Which is certainly my case, with these leg cramps.

Speaking of minerals, I've been to three local stores on the hunt for magnesium citrate powder and have been SOL. I didn't poop yesterday and today was okay because I finished off my magnesium last night & had some raw egg nog with like 5 yolks which sometimes gets things going. But I'm starting to get worried that I'll end up having to birth another brick turd if I don't get my hands on some mag. quickly. I figure that's my excuse for eating so much chocolate.

DP won't be here until like midnight. I figure I'll go to bed and he can wake me up when he gets here.

Meta- I get my mama calm online at amazon for half the price I've ever seen it in a store.

Horizontal blinds-I used to use a wet rag with some vinegar or cleaner on it and wipe each down when they're open. They do have blind cleaning brush things, too. I freaking hate blinds so I have banned them from our house now that we own and not rent.

Toilets are still not functioning. Apparently there was miscommunication with the plumbers and they didn't bring the appropriate tools to clean the main line. Ugh. They suggested that it would be "good enough" until tomorrow, but it's still the same - no solids going down at all (including toilet paper). NOT cool with 3 little boys and being super pregnant with a baby getting lower.

Oh and then the power went out. And it was off for hours and hours. Feeling better that it's back on but had to visit with my MW with no toilets and no power. She's so wonderful, though, and always so encouraging!!

Our tub got delivered. It'll be installed tomorrow along with the rest of the hardware (though I'm not sure where one part is - I didn't see it with the rest ). I'm feeling a little more like I might survive until it's done. Maybe. The last 24 hours have been just AWFUL for stress. I might just go sit in the dry tub in the box in the quiet bedroom for a little while and try to find some peace.

Everyone yesterday said baby was lower, and MW agrees. Measuring the same as last week and all looks great. Can't believe I could have a baby in 12 days or so! I really do want baby to wait at least a week, and then we're all clear.

I need to catch up and post more later... It's been hard to do much today.

I know I've only ever posted on one or two of these threads, but I have some free time right now and thought I'd chime in.

RE: the magnesium citrate -- I thought I was the only one who uses it to poop! My chiro recommended it and I'm so grateful. I never knew that constipation could actually be PAINFUL before this pregnancy.

I finally got the baby's carseat in our car and I'm SO wishing we could afford a minivan. We have a Ford Escort station wagon, which is a super small wagon. It was fine enough when DS's carseat was the only one in the back, and it was in the middle so I could climb in next to him and buckle him up. Now his seat is behind the driver's seat and he has hardly any legroom. Also, I have to stand outside the car and lean over to buckle him in. I know this is not the worst thing in the world or anything but still...

I am starting to get excited to have this baby! With DS5 I "knew" I would be a week or two late...and he was born on his due date. This time around I have a feeling he'll be early (probably because of all the early births in our DDC!)...so he'll probably be born on his due date. It's kind of exciting not knowing how or when it will happen. As long as it's after this Thursday (when I'll be 37 weeks) and we have the birthing tub we're renting (the mama who has it now is due tomorrow, so I'm pulling for her to have her baby SOON, whoever she is) I'm fine with whenever.

In the physical complaint department -- not only do my hips hurt at night and my crotch all the time, but now I'm starting to get pain at my leg joints. I'm not sure what that's called, but it feels like a pinched nerve. Ouch. I will be happy to have this baby outside of my body, even if he's more work.

Ok, I'm not very good at the response thing, but I swear I also read the whole thead. Hugs to everybody with the house issues, DP issues(mine too- I'm not sure who is pregnant and moody), and of course the physical problems.

So, those of you that are already dialated. Can you tell that you are? I mean just in general, not by checking. I feel like I am wide open down there. I have also completely emptied my bowels the last couple of days- does that mean anything?

DD is soooo clingy these days. All I hear is "I want my mommy", I wonder if her intuition is kicking in.

So Liam hasn't taken a nap the last 2 days (and not for lack of me trying!)... I am thinking he may be giving them up.. On the bright side, he went to bed with NO FIGHT (he is a sleep fighting champion) at 7:45. This kid is usually not in bed until 9:30-10 after 30 minutes or more of DH holding/cuddling him. DH and I actually have TIME TOGETHER this evening. So maybe the no nap thing will be good after all. He was pretty grumpy from 5:00 onward, but I'm thinking once he got used to not napping and getting all of his sleep at night it may get better? Who knows.... He is all baby-vicks'ed up so hopefully he will sleep better tonight without all the coughing!

I have an appointment with my MW tomorrow morning. Always exciting... I am really thinking this baby is going to come late.. but I wish he'd just go ahead and come on out! I'm only 5 days from my due date.. so even if he is late I don't have much longer to wait.....

Catie belly.gif- Happy wife to Aaron stillheart.gif(01.05), mama to Liambikenew.gif(08.08), and Ian jammin.gif (11.10)! homebirth.jpgnocirc.giffamilybed1.gif and joy.gif due Feb 2013 with blessing #3!

I'm seriously stressing about being more constipated lately. When I had ds, I had been constipated and had the *worst* rectal pressure/pain during labor, and a very unpleasant experience when I finally went afterwards. I am *so* desperate for that not to happen again. I'm doing all I can to not take zofran (very constipating) and to stay on top of taking my natural calm. I should be better about taking floradix too, because that seems to keep things moving...

And I don't know if it has to do with my digestive system or what, but baby is head-butting my cervix *and* my rectum. Seriously not comfy!

BTW, I've never seen mag citrate anywhere but the hospital...?

Sometimes I take miralax because my mw said it was safe -- it stays in the gut and doesn't affect baby. I try not to take it too often, though.

New Mama, I get nerve pain down my left groin sometimes when the baby is head-butting me. It's like a little bolt of lightning! And I'm sorry about the car situation. We just got a minivan and it's SO much easier to get ds in and out of his car seat!!! Before, I was lifting and pulling him in and out of a SUV!

Heather, I hope all of that stuff gets resolved soon!

Meta, I'm so excited for you that your dp is coming home tonight! Have fun!

AFM, dh and I took advantage of some alone time today when ds went down for his nap. We got an extra deep tub for our newly remodeled bathroom that slopes up on the end so you can lie back in it. So we tried out the tub together, and miraculously we both fit pretty comfortably! I was hoping (as I always do) that I would go into labor afterwards, but no such luck!

I didn't get my birth bag packed all the way today, but I did get all of my bills paid for November So I don't have to worry about that for a while. I think that in my heart I know I probably won't go into labor for another two weeks or so, so I'm not letting myself get *too* ready so I don't get my hopes up, KWIM?

I have a mw appt tomorrow. I'm not necessarily excited to go, except that my mw is a friend of mine, so we always end up chatting a lot. I'm sick of caring about my weight, and I don't think I'm going to have her check me. I think I'm totally off of checking as anything but a pain in the neck to have to take my pants off! Dh is coming along, and we'll have lunch together afterwards.

Heather-I hope all your plumbing (tub and toilets) are fixed soon.

Fern-stay healthy!

Ashley-I love your pictures, it looks like a really nice time.

I worked Saturday night, last shift, YAY! I felt fine all night and came home, slept until about 12:30 and woke up feeling sick. Texted my husband to come home. Vomited and pooped a couple times and was able to eat later that night. I feel completely fine today, so I don't really know what that was all about. At first I thought I was going into labor because when I went into labor with my son I had really bad stomach cramps first and emptied out then I started having regular contractions. My husband was awesome. I looked at the texts I sent him and realized that he left work within 20 minutes of the first text I sent saying I didn't feel well which before I actually got sick.

Then he took our son trick or treating and they ended up running into one of my son's friends from pre-k so they went trick or treating together and we realized they live really close. Hopefully they'll get to hang out more. Then today my husband went to Ikea and got a wardrobe for our coats and bags (we don't have a coat closet or any closet on the first floor and our stuff was cluttering the downstairs) assembled it and roasted a chicken for dinner before I got home from class tonight.

I've been having contractions tonight but I think they're just braxton hicks but I am getting excited that it is November and everything is getting closer. I think I've dropped because everyone at work and in school was commenting the past couple of days and there is definitely more room under my ribs instead of the baby being pressed right there.

Is anyone else having their leg fall asleep frequently? It seems like it is always my left leg, I don't know if it something about the way the baby is positioned or what but it has been happening a bunch.

Melissa- mom to a boy 9/06 and a new boy 11/10 and married to my best friend 7/02

Catie, I'm sorry Liam has been having such trouble with sleeping and with your DH leaving. I hope he is sleeping well tonight!

kitty, my cervix has moved around, too. So weird. One day it was *right*there* and now it's been more anterior and harder to reach. I'm assuming this is all normal and not particularly indicative of anything. Hope all that attempt and induction was fun, at least!

Karen, so exciting that it's almost baby time! I'm glad everything is coming together for you!

Fern, I hope you are able to stay healthy! While I haven't been *nearly* as sick as you have, I seem to be unable to get fully well and stay that way.. and it stinks. I'm hoping you can get well and stay well!

Lucy&Jude'sMama, . I can so feel the emotion through your post. I know I'd be feeling the same way in your shoes. I hope you have a wonderful experience regardless of location!

Ashley, sounds like a lovely weekend and Mother's Blessing!

Farren, it's funny how "crunchy" has different connotations. I don't think of it negatively at all. It is to me, a sort of way to measure where you are on the "granola" spectrum. And, in my mind, moving up on that is generally a good thing. A better term might be natural living/natural parenting, or "natural family living."

Meta, how interesting about carbs/sugar cravings and mineral deficiency. I had a big drop in cravings when I started taking cal/mag last week. Of course, I didn't keep it up and I have had somewhat more carb cravings. My MW always says to drink a big glass of water when you're craving sweets. Often, apparently, it's a symptom of dehydration. So glad your DH is on his way! You made it!!

Mag citrate - I can find Natural Calm at Whole Foods here. I also have a calcium/mag citrate by Thorne that I got at my chiro's office. Good stuff. I have given it to my DS for constipation issues before (not enough for him at that time) and I have seen the effect of too much mag citrate first hand.

New Mama, are you able to see a chiropractor? I am so with you on all the pains... I look forward to a bit of relief every week and would be SO much worse off without those visits! Hope you can get some relief, too!

chambom, I don't have any particular feeling of being dilated without checking. Though there are times I'd swear something is IN the birth canal and not just behind the cervix. You never do know with bowel clearing, but I'm hoping it's a good sign for you!

Julie, your extra-deep tub sounds lovely! My DH clearly has designs on using our new one once it's done, but I am claiming first dibs... And I'm not sure we'd both fit even though it's huge. Glad yours worked out, though!

Misa, hooray for being done! Sounds like your DH is pretty amazing! Yay! Everyone was telling me yesterday that baby has dropped some. I do think the outside observers are more likely to notice than we mamas are!

Okay, I think I caught up. Whew. I know I skipped some of yesterday but hopefully the thread police can forgive me for that.

Thanks for all the hugs and support, mamas! This evening has been better and I feel much more peaceful. I've gotta go get some sleep because I'm *exhausted* - but I should wake up to workers installing our bathroom fixtures and, hopefully, to plumbers cleaning our drain. We still don't know for sure if it's a major problem or a minor one... but, at this point, I have hope that we'll be able to flush tomorrow.

It's raining... Finally! It's been a month with no rain here. Kinda hoping it'll keep up while I sleep!

Liam slept all night last night! He was up a little before 6.. but that was expected since he had an early bedtime. I am thinking he may actually nap today, since we are going to see my MW at 11, then having lunch with DH, and usually the car is a sure-fire way to get him to sleep.. so I think he will fall asleep on the way home.

I am starting to get stir-crazy about this baby coming! I feel like I need to stay busy busy busy to keep my mind off of it.. and not busy cleaning, busy doing FUN stuff..

Misa, I don't have my left leg falling asleep, but I do get nerve pain and tingling down the front of it sometimes. Also, most of my cervical shooting pain are on the left side of my cervix, and that's where my RL pain under my rib is. I think baby hasn't strayed from my left side this whole pregnancy!

Julie- the tub sounds awesome!

and MisaGoat

i.e. "Crunchy"- I had never heard the term until MDC. I know some people use it insultingly and some people use it as a measure of your worth. I ignore both and just think it's a funny term. Said while eating my granola with organic yogurt and being the person that tempted everyone with Toaster Strudels

I had tons of cramps and ctxs last night after dtd and they went away. Which I'm glad about-ds' surgery is Wednesday, not Thursday. I am an idiot, apparently.

Tonight I'm letting the kids paint my belly. They're super excited.

Farren, I didn't realize that "crunchy" was ever used in a negative way. I hope I didn't offend anyone!

I do think that "natural family living" is probably a better term, especially considering that Mothering uses that phrase for their magazine! There's such a wide spectrum that includes so many different things, and as I've said before, I think everyone does the best they can with the resources that they have. If I had an unlimited budget, for instance, that would change the name of the game for me considerably. For starters, I would pay off my student loans and stop working until my kids were a little older! I would buy *everything* organic and have our whole home remodeled with sustainable, non-toxic materials! And that's me just getting started!

When I was a single WAHM, I knew just a little about attachment parenting at first, based on how my mom raised us and what felt "right" to me. Then I discovered Mothering, which helped me along. I had a natural birth in a hospital, breastfed dd until she was 2 1/2, co-slept, tried to "wear" her (but had a very ill-fitting sling that never worked out so I just carried her all the time instead!), didn't vaccinate her, homeschooled her for kindergarten, ate a vegetarian diet for many years, etc. After I started back to work and school, met my dh and got pregnant, got married, etc., my mothering changed a little based on the fact that I wasn't free to make all of the decisions on my own anymore. So dh and I have found what works for both of us, and I'm pretty happy with the compromises we make. I would always like to go more "natural", but feel like I do the best I can.

BTW, there's a homeschooling forum on MDC which I'm sure has a wealth of info in it!

Desiree, your son's surgery is tomorrow? Did you convince your dh to take any time off? I'm praying that everything goes well!

I had my mw appt today. Pretty much a non-event. I didn't get checked, but head is still down low and I'm measuring 38 cm at 38 weeks. I apparently gained 3 pounds in a week, which could be due to the fact that I've been eating really well lately, or it could be that the scale is just wacked out! Just from palpating, my mw is estimating that baby weighs roughly 6 lbs, which is par for the course for me. So all good things, just more watching and waiting... :yawning

Oh, and BTW, I tried to check my cervix this morning and couldn't find it again. So whatever...

Julie, wife to DH , mom of DD 8/99 and DS 1/09 , and #3 due 11/14/10

Mine's playing hide and seek, too, Julie. Woot! for weight gain! I wish mine would go the other direction. This swelling is horrible.

I'm sure I've posted this before, but to hold us over until our own babies get here:

http://www.doulapattiramos.com/2008/...-up-close.html

I WILL warn you all, though, that if you look back further on her site there are awesome birth pictures, videos, and articles. However, there are also at least two very graphic stillbirth posts with detailed pictures that can be considered very disturbing if you have high anxiety right now like I do. I wish I had a warning about that before I saw them. I just can't handle that right now. But the above post is not a stillbirth.

I love her blog but I've tried to stay away because of that random crying thing I mentioned yesterday.

Reading along, just not keeping up with replies...

I am SO sleepy. I'm also worried that DD and I are kinda getting colds... hopefully it'll be one of those that comes and goes without flowering... I feel less of it today, just tired, so I hope her sniffles today are it.

We tested out the birth pool finally this morning-- we finally have all the attachments and a pump that works and everything. I got in so DH could see how far to fill it and so we could see what temp I like. It was sooo nice! I'm still not 1005 convinced that's where I want to be... I really liked being totally supported in bed last time. But if the pool will make me feel even better, heck, I'll be enjoying myself!

Tomorrow is our home visit! I'm excited DH will get to actually be at an appt. He feels bad that he's not been so involved this time, but really he works at home, he COULD come to my appts (which are literally less than 2 min away). So this time he has to be at it I know there are still things upon things to get done, but we made a HUGE amount of progress this weekend/Monday. DH responded really well to my freaking out a bit last Wed-- I very calmly said I felt overwhelmed and that I needed all the help I could get crossing things off the list, and he freakin scrubbed the kitchen floor for me. Now, that's love.

I'm off to brew my sitz bath herbs to put on pads to freeze. Then hopefully DH will be done with his work call and I can make him move to another room and work my way through the tidying and such in our bedroom.

Tuesdays are a busy day here.. my midwife came over @9am..all is well.. my BP is lower than it has been in a few weeks. it was fine, but kind of high end of normal for me..and my heart-rate is finally down which probably means my body has finally killed whatever was causing the infection. YAY!
baby is measuring 40 weeks for the 2nd week in a row..but is in a nice head down LOA position and seems happy as a bug in a rug..my girls helped my midwife listen to babies HB. they love being little helpers. one squeezes the goop and one holds the wand and one presses the button. i was so against Doppler use but its so fun for them to be part of it and get to hear baby and this one sure doesn't seem to mind at all.
so yeah. i love home visits, plus it encourages me to keep things tidy

im still coughing stuff up, and still throwing up quite a bit which is almost the worst. i had a nice breakfast of tea and toast with nutritional yeast and half an avocado (which is a treat because they are super expensive here) and then i had a lovely shower, got out of the shower and coughed and puked up everything in my stomach including what seemed like 4 liters of stomach acid. i can still taste it, even after coffee and lunch. yuck.
but after that i felt okay
but my sneezies seem to have just been a reaction to something cause my energy is slowly returning.

saw my chiro today too and he totally fixed my sore neck. my lower back/sacral pain has been medium bad, but its kind of on and off and one side then the other which isn't a bad thing he says. he adjusted me anyways and i feel better for it..then it was mothercare where we hang out with other pregnant mamas and mamas with babies (up to 6 months) and i got 2 months worth of vouchers so i have 60$ of me spending money.. exciting!

then i went to my daughters homelinks class where we are making lanterns for st.martins day lantern walk. its the traditional Waldorf way and i love learning these kind of crafts... im hoping baby comes soon so i can go or waits till after. its the Friday after this one. funny how we have to plan things around giving birth at this point

im home now and debating napping or knitting while my kids have quiet movie time

ETA: my son came to my daughters class when my dp had to go to work and he had found a remembrance day poppy and said he saw it and thought of me (generally i dont wear them because im not at all a supporter of war) but i felt like it was a little sign.. we had decided if this is a girl we would name her poppy and lately trying to think of boy middle names im totally stumped and keep looking at the girl names instead.. so maybe this baby is a girl, not the boy i have been thinking all along.
i sure cant wait to find out!

I think I've dropped because everyone at work and in school was commenting the past couple of days and there is definitely more room under my ribs instead of the baby being pressed right there.
ooOh.. sounds like it could be something, hey?
keep us updated!

I think I am in denial. My due date is 4 days away (well, 3.5 since today is almost over!) and I don't feel like this baby will be here anytime soon. Maybe it is just because I "know" he will be a little late. I am trying to be patient.. I think he may be here around the 10th. It would be nice for him to surprise me and come closer to "on time" though..

We've had a great day here today.. MW appointment this morning which went well, then lunch with Aaron and a restful afternoon. Not much of a nap by the boy today again though (he slept in the car from the MW to DH's office, about 15 minutes) so I'm hoping he will go to bed early again tonight! I have some DTD plans for DH and I...

MamaFern, I hope it was just a reaction as you sound like you're doing better overall!

I just lost a bunch more mucous plug. Ds has surgery tomorrow. I hope this kiddo can hang in a few more days.

Dh said he'll call in to work. Usually surgery is first thing in the morning, but they have us down to be there at 8:30 and he won't have surgery until 10:00 so dh can't just go in late. Thank the gods. I can't imagine taking them all with me.
