This is what I've been up to lately. I know a lot of you here on MDC believe that you can't spoil a baby, but I say you CAN, and I'm about to do it. My spoiled rotten little baby gets only the finest hand-knit socks, hats, and booties, some made from handspun yarn. Honestly...you can't tell me that I will wrap my baby up in handspun merino and NOT spoil her.

Honestly I think that knitting these little baby things has helped to keep me sane, because I am not enjoying this pregnancy nearly as much as I've enjoyed the others and I feel a little (er, a lot) guilty about that. This is helping me to remember that I will get to meet a new little person soon, and this pregnancy is about more than sore muscles/joints/bones and heartburn/headaches and insatiable appetite/cravings...you get the picture.

Brown/blue/pink/green/yellow striped baby socks

same socks, cuff unfolded

Same sock pattern different yarn, for my baby

Same sock pattern along with a matching hat for a friend's baby (also due in December, but not on this board...I hope)

Same hat pattern as above, for another friend due in November

Same hat pattern as above, for MEEEE! Fiber dyed by a friend who owns a shop in town, spun and knit by me (matching booties are in progress)

Thanks for looking

Your life doesnât change by the man whos elected. If your loved by someone you can't be rejected... decide what to be and go be it! If your a caged bird brake in and demand that somebody free it.

Both of them are on Ravelry.com and you have to be a member to get them. They're free downloads. The hat pattern is called Aviatrix Baby Hat by Justine Turner, and the sock pattern is called Sunny's Baby Socks by Diane Haworth.

If you finish Sunny's Baby Socks by Saturday you can enter them in a contest to win an interchangeable needle set - that's how I found the pattern in the first place. I have finished three pairs; it takes about 2 1/2 hours to finish one sock.

That is so sweet! I agree; making things for the baby makes this time seem special, not something to just be endured

I've been knitting too, but not quite with such delicious yarn! I love these, thanks for the sock pattern. I just started one and I want to do more, I love that they don't seem to take too long!

They are gorgeous! Did you hand spin the merino? If you did, wow! Merino is so hard to hand spin! I am part of a spinning group and all these wonderful experienced ladies tell me how hard it is to spin becuase it is so fine. You are awesome! That is one lucky and loved baby!

I think it's merino, but on my ravelry page I wrote BFL, so now I'm confused. I'll just say it's merino so I can keep your praise.

So cute! I love the hat pattern. I'm going to go look for it now.

This reminds me I really need to get knitting. I've only done 1 pair of longies and 1/2 a sweater so far.

I LOVE the Aviatrix pattern. My aunt is an amazing knitter and that was one of the first patterns I found and asked her to make for my baby. It's so fun to see a few versions of the finished product, I can't wait to see what she's been working on for me!
