We've made lists of what to pack and I've packed the baby items. I haven't packed my stuff yet. I'm packing nursing tanks and PJ pants, slippers, robe, clothes for the ride home, breast pads, gel packs, lanolin, snacks, ipod, etc. For the baby I'm bringing cloth dipes, wetbag, onesies and sleepers in two sizes, hats, socks, swaddling blankets, and moby wrap. I'm sure there's other stuff on the list but I think that covers the basics.

I'm not due until the 17th, so I feel like I've got plenty of time. And I have to pack to move myself, my husband, and my toddler over to the next town sometime around 38 weeks to wait for baby to come, so I'm more worried about that packing. To the hospital last time, I think I just brought a baby outfit, a wrap, a camera and cell phone, some clothes for me, and a couple of fancy chocolate bars for a treat.

Seriously.... and this is my 5th hospital birth and second cesarean.
I haven't even thought about it and probably won't for another 2 weeks.
I don't have everything I need yet.

If you have a fairly baby friendly hospital you can even put them off about bathing the baby until you get home.

I'm at a freestanding birth center, not a hospital, but nope. Haven't even started to think about it, besides asking the midiwife if they have WiFi so we can play Pandora on my netbook!

She will give me a list of things to bring sometime soon, and we'll worry about it from there. But, we only stay for 4 hours after the birth and then we are sent home, so I don't imagine I"ll need too much.

I want to pack super light, but keep thinking of things I need to bring... my list so far:

toiletries for me and baby
arnica
lanolin
baby's coming home outfit
a few cloth diapers
clothes for me (including robe, something to labor in, nursing tank, going home outfit)
slippers
nursing pillow
labor snacks: suckers, coconut water, stuff for dh to eat
large bottle of pregnancy tea
ipod and ipod radio
a knitting project (wishful thinking I know LOL)
blanket for baby
camera and camcorder

I'm thinking maybe I'll bring a backpack for labor stuff and another for my "stay."

I think there are 3 big categories

1. Labor tools. Music, birthing ball, rebozo scarf, whatever you want to bring.
2. Postpartum needs. This depends on how long you stay and what the hospital supplies but can include toiletries, breastpads, breastfeeding pillow, belly binder, ect.
3. Going Home. Clothes for you and baby, the carseat, your own diapers, ect.

I always over pack, so I'm going to try to go light this time. Also, I want to split everything into two separate bags - one for labor, one for recovery - and switch them out of the car. If nothing else, it'll make me *feel* like I've packed lighter, lol.

Right now, nothing is packed. Actually, almost nothing is purchased, lol. I have to go shopping today, so I may pick up some travel sized toiletries.

BTDT moms have told me to pack two bags - one for L&D and one for the hospital stay. Haven't packed mine yet, but it's on the to-do list.

L&D bag includes snacks for DH and I, chapstick, warm socks, heating pad, lavender moisturizer for backrubs, and my yoga mat.

PP bag will have multiple pairs of PJs, granny underwear, nursing sleep bras, sanitary napkins, toiletries, nipple cream, breast pads, makeup (i know, I know ), and a going home outfit for the baby.

I have had four hospital births and am not sure if this babe will be home or hospital yet..
But what I packed
pjs, flipflops (for shower), old slippers, comfy clothes (usually zip up hoody, tshirts and sweat pants), arnica, camera, cell phone, pads, lanolin, toothbrush, undies, nursing bra, breast pads, nursing pillow (with first baby only), baby sleepers, baby onesies, fleece outersuit for baby for going home,
baby carseat
Think thats about it
I am not one for staying long at the hospital and my laborers are fast so no need for anything extra there except for camera and arnica for horrible after pains!!!!!

Mama to SDD (12), DD (8), DD (6), DD, (4), DS (3) and new little babe arriving Dec. We are in the process of building our cob home and homestead
