The story goes like this: I am planning HB, midwife flying in from out of state. Prenatal care being done by FP MD who will 'special' me if A) go into labor before midwife is here or B) must transport. I plan not do prophylatic antibiotics in labor even if I were GBS+. If I were in the hospital I plan to refuse their prohylatic treatment of the newborn also (CBC and blood culture at one hour of age followed by repeat CBC at 12 hours). I would just check vitals every 4 hours. Risks and benefits are what I am looking at here and basing my evidence based decision on. MD and midwife fine with all of this.
So my MD is like why even get screened? If it's not going to change my course of action. Made me start thinking b/c this was one test I was actually going to do and she is trying to talk me out of it, I find this really funny BTW.
What do you think? Am I doing it out of pure curiosity? Hmmmm. Not sure.
Just wondering is anyone else is refusing the screening and why. She also said the babies head is 'way low', could this be why starting yesterday I feel like when I get up my lower pelvic or uterine muscles are stretching? Owww! I am starting to finally feel preggers!!
Thanks in advance for any responses!!

I am agreeing to the test, but haven't agreed upon treatment with my midwife. They usually just give you a quick dose of abx if you are positive. Hibiclens does the same thing--kills all the bactera in the vagina, not just the bad ones--but the shot or oral abx is of course, more general, and could mess up my gut a little bit. I'll either do abx or hibiclens if positive for it. I seriously can't even remember the last time I took abx!
Either way, I'm going to start taking probiotics at 36 weeks, because although I've only had 2 yeast infections in my life, they were around times of MAJOR female hormonal change: when I went off the pill, and when I got pregnant. Somehow, I imagine postpartum recover is bad enough without adding a YI on top of it!

I just got my GBS test done, but am not keen on doing abx if I am positive, but i figured, if I'm negative, then it's a non-issue. What is the hibiclens you ladies are talking about? I haven't heard it? And I think I will probably just do more monitoring if it is positive. any tips?
Well I decided I WILL get tested, ONLY because I am really curious. I have been drinking homemade kefir daily from the beginning as I had heard from a HB midwife I love that it works for keeping you GBS -. I am just really curious so figure might as well. Then if I am + I know to step up the probiotic routine and will retest at 38 weeks.
As far as hibacleanse washes, I want that stuff nowhere near my vagina. Have you ever seen it? Yucky stuff! Remember less than 1% chance of baby contracting GBS....
I refused the GBS test at my 36 week appointment and did the same when I was pregnant with DD. My reason for doing so is because my MW cannot administer antibiotics so if I test positive then I will not be able to homebirth (which I am NOT WILLING to jeopardize!) I also agree that since one can test positive one week and negative the next then it is not really accurate.
ITA. I decline testing.
