I'm so bummed, no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't avoid going on insulin. My OB has to put me on an insulin drip during labor because of this which means I will have to start my birth with an IV in place. I had hoped to avoid it since I don't want any interventions unless medically necessary. Anyone had an insulin drip?
I'm sincerely hoping I can just start labor on my own and show up when it's too late to do anything but catch the baby anyway....:(
I'm sorry to hear that!
I've never had to be on an insulin drip, but I've labored with IVs a couple of times. Yes, it's definitely an added hassle, but it isn't *terribly* difficult to deal with.
I did find that already having an IV in place probably made it easier for me to cave for IV drugs with my second birth, so that may be something you want to be aware of. I had an IV during part of my 4th labor, too, but I made it clear that nobody was to offer any pain meds, under penalty of death! ;-)
