I've had this feeling (maybe more of an anxiety) that my baby is going to come early. I'm a first-time mom and I've been under the impression that many first-timers go late, though I've also heard that it varies (I think the more consistent evidence is that first-timers have longer labors). I don't know if what I'm feeling is just wishful thinking, but I have been nesting like crazy to get everything done by 37 weeks (which is what I am today) because I just keep thinking that it can happen "any day now", even though I have 3 more weeks to go until my technical due date. I can't shake this feeling that he is going to come early. And watch me put my foot in my mouth when January rolls around and I'm still pregnant!

Has anyone had this nagging feeling of going early/late and been right? Just wondering if I have a true intuition or if I'm just being anxious and impatient.

I'm a first time mom here too and I haven't really felt any intuition one way or another. I am even wondering if what I am feeling are really contractions every now and then. I rushed around getting everything ready by 37 weeks (39 now) and it's been an amazingly long couple of weeks watching all the stuff sitting there ready. I've even thought, hey, let me wash those dishes (am I nesting? am I nesting now? how about now?).... but nothing so far....

I thought I would go early with #1 and I went into labor on my due date.  This time, I am still trying to get ready early and enjoy the holidays and really hope this baby comes before the end of the year (or I have to repay the deductible for my out of network midwife at a tune of $1500).

My room is a mess though, so the baby can wait.  Maybe have a project that you want to have done prior to baby that is not important just sit for a while??  Although, the master is pretty important!

Oh, I have a carseat check on the 16th, so baby can wait for that as well......

I am in no hurry this time.  I am excited, yes, just not like I was last time ;)

Exactly! I'm thinking... is this a contraction? Like a real one? Naw... can't be. Had quite a few of them last night though. EDD is Wednesday. Let's see how it goes....

And now nesting has been put aside for cleaning for family coming into town. So that is no longer an indicator...

Baby has my permission to come out now. I wonder if it reads the DDC...

One would think that as a 5th timer, I would know. Every time I get this "Baby might come today" feeling, nothing happens. My baby emergence radar is off or something..LOL

I had that feeling with my first. Once I was 39 weeks though I chilled out and don't remember being anxious to give birth or sick of being pregnant. I totally mellowed out. She was born at 4w3d.

I've never had any *really* strong intuition about timing, and none of my "soft" guesses have been right.

1st was induced on my due date (born the next day).  I never really had any thoughts about him coming early.

2nd was induced at 41 weeks.  I worried about her being earlier than that, but it was mostly about child care arrangements and not any signs.

3rd was born the day after her due date (all natural).  That was kind of a shock.  I thought she might hang around inside another week or so.

4th I was pretty much thinking 41 weeks.  After that, I thought every day was going to be the day.  We induced at 41w6d and he was born at 42 weeks.  That was another shock.

I'm nearly 38w now.  My history tells me he won't come early, but my body is telling me all sorts of things that it never has before.  Maybe it's just because I'm older now.  Maybe it's because this is my 5th baby.  Maybe it's because I have a planned induction just before 40 weeks and this is wishful thinking to avoid it.  Or maybe he's out to surprise us!

I'm a first-timer who had "early" vibes and was right.  I was due dec 1 and guessed early on that babewould be here on the27th if early or the 7th if late.  but as i got further along, esp when baby dropped pretty early (34w i think), and i was 80% effaced and1cm dilated at 36w, i started thinking he'd be early.  i was guessing around 37-38 wks.  he arrived at 38w3d!

I keep wondering the same thing...but not sure why. I was just certain that baby would be super early...like this week early (EDD is 12/23)...but I don't really have any signs of anything, other than my osteopath and midwife saying that they doubt I'll go much longer. I've been nesty over the last week or so, have basically crossed everything off my birth prep list except a trial filling of the birth tub. I'm ready, but there is also a huge 5 or so day storm blowing through our area so it's not a bad thing that little one is hanging out in there still. I really would like my MW/Doula/DP to be able to get here when I go into labour, this week..that might be iffy!  But loving the time at home with dd. She's out of school and we are having such a great time baking and creating and enjoying the winter wonderland.

But I still feel like if I make it to next week it would be totally against all intuition I have.

All this said, my guess date on our thread initially was 12/21...so maybe I'm totally off now and just anxious!

I just can't wait to meet our wee one!

I'm due on the 27th, so I've got some time too, and I don't know why but I feel like it could happen next week. I've been super nesty all throughout the latter half of my 2nd trim. and this trim. as well, but was especially almost crazy hyper-nesting this past Sunday and have noticed that my baby is active this week, but that his movements are different (I imagine there is less space in there). He is not doing kicks or anything anymore and instead seems to be bunching up as his butt/back is sticking out often, and is doing more full-body movements. I've just been havings lots of PMS-type cramping and what feels to be Braxton-Hicks, but it is hard to tell since my baby sticking his backside out often makes my stomach feel tight too :) I know the baby dropped too because at my last appointment 2 weeks ago my MW said she thought he had, and that I probably wouldn't notice much because he has been so low all along. But now I can tell b/c when my husband and I tried to DTD earlier this week he couldn't even get the whole thing in all the way biglaugh.gif

It could be anxiety or just anticipation...it will be exciting to see what happens in the end! I know I could potentially have another month and some change to go at this point if I go to 42 weeks and the suspense is going to kill me if takes this little guy that long to come out!

I don't have any intuition.  I thought she'd come early - I ended up having to leave work because it was causing too many preterm contractions.  But, here I am - 38wks tomorrow.  As of Friday I'll be the most pregnant I've ever been and this is baby #3.  WTH!?!?!  I'm just READY!

I felt *exactly* the way you did, lhcj2008 a couple of weeks ago. I too am a FTM, turned into a frantic nester around 36 weeks, was having frequent braxton hicks contractions and worried sick that I'd go early.  Now that I'm 38 weeks, the bh contractions have calmed down (or maybe I'm just more used to them?), I've stopped work and definitely feel more relaxed.  Chalk it up to first timer anxiety!

I felt the same way. I pushed to get everything done by 37 weeks, which turned out to be perfect. I'm 40 weeks Saturday, but I had to move closer to a hospital at 36 weeks, so while my timing for the baby was off, thankfully I had everything done already. Otherwise, it would have been awful trying to get things done while out of town.
