I don't know why I didn't look at all or do a search. But I just found out today that the Amby bed that I bought used for $150 was recalled in December of 2009!

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10056.html

I had borrowed one from a friend for the first three months of ds #2's life back in 2008 and it was seemed fine.

So when a different friend posted hers for sale because she was moving I jumped at the chance.

I had coffee today with other friend, who asked me if the recall fix kit had been included, becuase she had never received hers.

Of course it isn't there. I didn't know it should be.

So now I have to figure out what to do.

I am probably not going to use it now even though I do so without issue before.

I have an old pack and play from 7 yr old ds and I "think" it has a bassinnette attachment, so as long as I can figure out how it fits together that should work for when the baby is not in bed with us.

I emailed the person I bought it from and asked her if she knew about the recall, of course she has denied that....but I don't know what to do now. Part of me thinks I should get my money back, but I am sooo non confrontational and feel bad asking her for $150 right before christmas. I would feel ok asking her for half...if I could get up enough guts to do it.

Also it really is my responsibility to ensure that the things I buy for my baby are safe.

But I can't really eat the $150 for something I can't use. And it is possible I might need to purchase something else for her to sleep in.

And baby is coming Thursday!!! SO, YAY! for one more thing to freak out about.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

If there is in fact a recall fix kit to be had, I think it's reasonable (and perhaps a more comfortable subject to broach) that the seller help you track down and pay for the kit.  Seems like a good compromise that would solve the safety and usability problem.

Good luck.

From the cpsc recall:

Note: Firm is no longer in business.
The repair kit is no longer available. If you do not have the repair kit, stop
using and discard this product.

Please don't be too hard on yourself! I would definitely ask for at least half back - the worst she can say is no...good luck!
