I am 41 weeks. My midwife has started me on cohosh. So far, a few crampy contractions. If it doesn't work this time, we try again next week. My fingers are crossed!!

I had maybe 3 good contractions during the whole 6 hour drops every so often. Damn. And, it was just blue cohosh. Someone said I need the black kind too? Maybe I will venture out tomorrow (if no ice) and visit an herb store?

Just FYI Black and Blue cohosh aren't related. Different plant families entirely. But they are used together b/c black cohosh helps the blood pressure remain wnl. For that reason they are a good combo.

I know that they are typically used together- Susun Weed suggests in Wise Women Herbal for the Childbearing Year that they always be used together, in fact. They work to both encourage and regulate contractions.

My midwife used black and blue cohosh. I think we did it like every 5 mins? or something for an hour with walking and nipple stimulation. I had my baby girl 6 hours later.

Hope it works!  I did some in tincture form for my first DD, but she was still almost 42 weeks.  But I was worried about taking it, so I did less than recommended by my midwife.
