So today I am 38 weeks and 4 days and I am so, so, so ready to have this baby. This is my third and by far, the most uncomfortable!

So today at my OB appt. I was checked and found to be 70% effaced and 3cm dilated. My OB seemed hopeful that I could go 'soon'. Should I get my hopes up? Please labor Gods....let me be next .....

I hope it means your labor is close, but.....

it is possible to walk around for several days/weeks at that level of dilation and effacement. I know because I did with DD#1! I was 75% effaced and a "tight" 3 cm for over a week. I just don't want you to be disappointed if you don't go into labor immediately.

That being said, think of any dilation as major progress! 3 cm down, only 7 to go! You're getting there! thumb.gif

No, I'm sorry.   I mean, yes it could be soon, but it really means nothing.  My sister was 4 cent for over 3 weeks, the longest of her life, because hearing she was already at 4 cent made her think the baby would be coming at anytime.  I've had several clients do the same thing, dilate early, birth around or even after their due dates.  I hope that's not the case for you and I'm sorry to be a downer!!

This is my 3rd and def most difficult as well so I can definitely sympathize.  I think that's part of why I haven't checked myself, I don't want to mess with my head and get my hopes up that I may actually go early this time since both of my other 2 have been born in the week after their due dates, I'm just assuming this one will too.

I hope it's soon for us both!  :)

Hopefully it is soon for you.  I am also 38w 4 d and will have my midwife check tomorrow but it could mean nothing.  I was 4cm and 100% effaced for a week before my 2nd ds came and he showed up only 2 days before his due date.  I am hoping for better news tomorrow or even labor by this weekend but in the end we can only wait.  I have had really strong good BH today, the kind that make you stop and breath so hopefully they are doing something :)  Good luck i hope you little one shows soon and mine too :)

Not to be the bearer of bad news.... i'm 39w5d with twins and have been 5cm and 100% effaced for over a week... with constant contractions (normal for me)... so anything can happen.

And I went from fingertip to 8cm in 45 minutes. My midwife doesn't even do internals for that very reason (hopes up prematurely, or unnecessarily disappointed.)

Yeah, I've been walking around at a 5cm for over two weeks, so I'm getting a little despondent. Granted, from my history, I usually go from 6cm to 10 in less than an hour (it's like being hit by a train) so could go either way...
