Hi DDC...

I can't believe this happened to me, but 23 days after giving birth naturally at home (beautiful, non-complicated birth) I ended up in the ER with what I thought was shoulder pain had a CT scan done after hearing it could be a blood clot and fatal turned out to be a postpartum pulmonary embolism.

Craziest thing that could have ever happened to me.  Scared me.  Has anyone ever heard of this, or had this happen to them, or know someone.

Thought I would post here in my DDC as I wanted to let you all know what happened to me and thought I could hear some thoughts.

TIA, Abigayle

That is really crazy. I  am a L&D and postpartum RN (same unit at our hospital) and that is rare!! Statistically I would be interestd in the numbers that far postpartum, usually higher risk closer to delivery. I have never seen one, hope never to! Most shoulder pain is referred gas pain believe it or not. Ambulation and some mylicon (chewable antigas tablet) do the trick. We try this first if all else is normal while some docs go straight for the CT scan. Glad all is well!
