We're having a boy!!!!!! We had our level II ultrasound today and everything looks great, baby boy is measuring exactly where he should be. I am 18 weeks today and measured EXACTLY 18 weeks, not 1 day more or less. He weighs 8 ounces and has a strong heartbeat.

He was definitely cooperative the u/s tech and the doctor both said they were 100% sure that it was a boy and gave us several pictures of the boy parts - well, they gave DH the pictures They gave us tons of other pics too so once I get them scanned in I'll try to post a link to them.

Wife to DH, Mommy to Amber 10/01/08 and Kyle 01/09/11

It's a girl! Everything looked great on the ultrasound. We were lucky and had a great technician. She went slowly and explained everything she was looking for and looking at.

Just found out yesterday... it's a boy! He's so active that he was literally running away from the technition during the ultrasound- she told me she hopes I'm very patient and have alot of energy, because this one's gonna be a wild one. Ummm... thanks for the encouragement? His name is James.

I pray for the day Family Court recognizes that CHILDREN have rights, parents only have PRIVILEGES.  Only then, will I know my child is safe.

I had my US on Thursday, everything looks good but the hospital won't tell you the sex of the baby

So we're going to go to a private ultrasound place just to find out, because I really want to know! I'm guessing girl.. hopefully we'll know for sure on Monday!

Liability and CYA. Some places are afraid they will get sued if they tell you the wrong flavor. I know for years many Army hospitals would not tell you.

Well, the way it works here is your doctor sends in a referral for an ultrasound, and you go to whichever hospital has the first availability. Only one hospital in the city will tell you the sex, and I'm not really sure why. The hospital I went to is Catholic, and I used to think they were the only ones that couldn't tell you. It's annoying, because our ultrasounds are covered by our provincial health plan, but now we have to go pay $100 out of pocket to go to another place just to find out the gender. I just can't wait though

Also, if you aren't in the US there are some countries where it's illegal due to infanticide. I had never heard that for liability purposes though-- the gender is the least risky thing that they are checking for!

How it was explained to me is that someone was told one gender so they spent a fortune on gender specific clothing and the baby was of the opposite gender so they raised a huge stink and threatened a lawsuit so they made it a blanket policy at all Army hospitals that they could not tell the gender. I am not sure the accuracy of that since I never had maternity care on base, but I was told that several times over by several people. I think it was changed some years back, but I know from word of mouth in 2005 at Ft. Carson Colorado they would not tell you the gender and the first time I heard about it was at Ft Hood Texas in the late 90's by no less than three different women... if you wanted to know the gender you drove an hour away to Austin to the radiology college and they would tell you.

We had our ultrasound today and it's a girl!

We usually don't find out the sex, so it was kind of odd now to know it...a big deal to us but obviously not the ultrasound tech who had the personality of a rock.
