I just trying to be hopeful that maybe the u/s was wrong and my dates are off. I posted the "I'm out" thread on thursday after my 8 week u/s. the doc said I had a blighted ovum. Friday, I went back and begged for another u/s. The u/s tech saw something in the sac, and what "might" be a heartbeat, or she said it could be bloodflow? She couldn't quite tell. Anyway I know for a fact the night that I got pregnant was May 13th. No doubt about that. It was the only time we had sex that month. I didn't have sex since then, fearing miscarriage. I don't understand how I'm even supposed to be 8 weeks, when I count on the calander it's a little over 6 weeks. If anyone could give me some insight that would be great. Yes, I'm trying to grab on to any hope there is. I had a bloodtest on thursday, another today, and I go back to the OB on Monday to check my levels. I'm not bleeding. The u/s did show blood around the sac. I've been staying in bed, or on the couch. Still nausiated, boobs still hurt..although I guess I would still have that even if I was in the process of m/c. Thanks so much, and sorry to ramble and be a downer.

Well, pregnancy is counted from the LMP, and they assume in this count that a woman's cycle is 28 days with ovulation smack in the middle - so 6 weeks from ovulation would make you 8 weeks pregnant the way OBs count it.

I really hope for you that the first US was wrong. I've heard of early US measuring small even when a woman is sure of her dates and the pregnancy working out. I hope that's the case for you

Hmmm. So there is no other sex after May 13th? Even if I put ovulation at May 19th (which is pushing it because the sperm would have to live 6 days but still possible, I personally know a girl that only had sex once that month and her husband got deployed, she got pregnant from sex 8 days before O, and she was charting, and it was confirmed by u/s dating), you would be 7w2d yesterday and *should* see a heartbeat. However, that does make sense though, because if you were 6w1d at the earlier u/s, that could definitely be too early to see a heart beat. I'm hoping for you!!

hopefully the ultrasound is wrong. Im not well versed on it but I know that the dates are calculated from your LMP so basically 14 days prior to when you conceived (at least with military doctors, they will "adjust" your LMP date because all their measurements are based off of 28 day periods no matter how long your period is).

Yeah, on the LMP - if you ovulated later than CD14 your due date will not be accurate from LMP. For instance, I ovulated on CD21 last time I was pregnant, so my due date from LMP (Aug 31) was a week ahead of my due date from ovulation (Sept. 6). If I had not known that and told my OB I had my period a week later than I actually did, the u/s I had at when I was actually 7w2d would have looked wrong/small because the OB would have thought I was 8w2d, kwim? So, I'm really really hoping for you that your dates were off somehow and that you ovulated a lot later than you thought ((((hugs)))))

Kailey, my advice would be to WAIT IT OUT and hope for the best! You could choose to miscarry naturally, and if bleeding doesn't start within a week or so, I'd INSIST on going back for another ultrasound. If there's any chance there's a heartbeat or that your dates could be off, it is worth the wait. Hoping and praying for the best for you!

Are you having beta's drawn as well?
I know that beta's don't mean a successful pregnancy but if the numbers are doubling/rising and there is growth on the U/S I would remain optimistic yet cautious.
My ovulation was May 18 and I'm 7w5d today, due Feb 8 if that helps.
LMP works for me oddly this time around because I did ovulatate on cd15 but that is a fluke. i would use Ovulation date over LMP anyday.

DDCC - Another thing I have seen... is that even if you were 7-8 weeks along... if your uterus is tilted back too far... they can totally miss the baby and the heartbeat!

I don't see it often, but I have seen it in two different DDCs since becoming pregnant in Dec. Perhaps post and ask this in the main pregnancy thread? Those mamas may still be active and be able to give you their stories.

Very confusing. My beta levels did not go up as much as they would like, didn't come close to doubling, It either went up 100 or 1000.. the day was long and foggy. Did not see any heartbeat today, but the ultrasound was different. There were two white specs inside the sac. The ob did not know what these were, but they were not there on Friday. More beta levels today, more on weds, than another u/s on Friday. The ob is not hopeful, and of course went over the "if you start bleeding" speal again. I don't know what to think, I'm just going to try to stay sane until friday. Two specs, twins? but no heartbeats... just very confusing, who knows what the specs are.. I'll edit to add the ultrasound pic if anyone wants to try and disect it.. Thanks everyone so much for the much needed support.

I would NOT stress about the fact that the numbers are not doubling - they slow a LOT after 1500.

# Below 1,200 mIU/ml, hCG usually doubles every 48-72 hours
# Between 1,200 and 6,000 mIU/ml serum, the hCG usually takes 72-96 hours to double
# Above 6,000 mIU/ml, the hCG often takes over four days to double

I have no idea about the u/s - did the sac grow? It looks like on the first pic, the sac is measuring 7w2d - with the retroverted uterus, you may not be able to see the baby very well? Were they vaginal u/s or abdominal? They look abdominal (the one from today I can see the cervix off to the right) so I'm guessing that that is actually good news to some extent because if your uterus is retroverted, and abdominal u/s isn't going to pick up as much or as easily as a transvaginal.

(((((hugs))))) Will you be going in for another u/s?

I *think* the actual number was 3700 ish... both ultrasounds were vaginal, but the friday u/s was done with a better u/s machine done by the ultrasound tech. I'll have another on friday. Thanks for the info, it helps ease my mind a little. (hugs) Today's ultrasound was quick, just quickly done to see if there was a heartbeat.

Well, 3700 is low if the only time you had sex was in May - it's around the 5 weeks pregnant level. However, betabase shows successful pregnancies at HCG level of the lowest of 539 at 30dpo - and that is pretty low - so I'm hoping for you!

DDCCing to say that during this pregnancy, they had a hard time finding the heart beat the first time, and even the second U/S (done about 1.5 wks apart since we had a previous loss for my first pregnancy). My heart literally stopped until they found it. baby was just in an odd location in the uterus, and mine isnt even tilted. this was also with a TransVag U/S. that was at 6.5 wks and 8 wks.

I have the highest hopes for you, and really have to give you so much for being so strong, and insisting on the additional U/S!!!

FWIW, I do see something in those US shots, but you can tell they are taken from different angles, so it's hard to tell exactly what it might be... I see something more promising in the first one, but the second could be viewing an embryo from the front, so you only see the head/tail nubs instead of the profile view.

I agree with kalamos' calculations, esp since you didnt give us ovulation date. It's still possible with all the circumstances that they're having a hard time detecting a totally viable pg.

good luck, I'll be following everything crossed for you!

The babymoon isn't over! Our long awaited A born 7/18/10, making us laugh and smile every day.

The doctor just called back himself, said that he doesn't feel it's healthy for me to have false hope. Said that whatever was in the sac yesterday was "debris" and that there is a 0% chance. I have an appt at 11:15 for another, and last ultrasound.

Oh honey, I am so so sorry. Btw, you don't HAVE to have a D&C if you don't want to, there are other options, ask your doctor about using Mistoprostol or letting your body do it naturally. The HCG levels - I dunno - that is a hard one because they start leveling out or dropping around 8ish weeks anyway. Make sure they do an in depth u/s so you are positive this time for your own sake. I am so sorry, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I would definitely research it, and please keep us updated (((((hugs))))))
