I am off to leave for my first Dr. visit!

I am a little annoyed because my OB is on vacation, and they couldn't get me in with her for my first visit (she was also my gyno and I really like her!) so they stuck me with some guy I have never met, but, I am being mellow and going with the flow.

I have no idea what to expect, this being my fist kidlet, but we shall see.

I work in the same "complex" as my dr. so I will have a nice relaxing 15 minutes walk outside in the lovely weather, which is a treat.

Well, like I said I had a new Dr., but I liked him, he was really easy going. he said that he and my regular Dr that I already know would both share in my care so that one of them would be around when it was time to deliver.

I learned a lot about how everything will go, this is my first baby and I just don't know what to expect! This will be a hospital birth, but I am going through Family Medicine and not the OB department.

He said the difference between the two departments was that in their Family Medicine clinic, they take a more "mellow and holistic approach" (his words) and in OB they have a more clinical attitude. He said they have recommended tests and exams that they will suggest as we go along but I can decline any one them if I don't want them.

We talked about making a birth plan so everyone knows what I want when it comes time to deliver and he said that I should start thinking about that in a little while and I can make one up and bring it in, or I can talk with him and we can make one together. I know it's early but most of my questions right now are about delivery!!!

I didn't have an ultrasound, he said they don't tend to do them that early in that clinic unless they think there is something wrong, mostly we just talked about how things are going to go over the coming months. They drew a bunch of blood for tests.

Overall I feel really good about it, he talked to me like I have a brain and will be a partner in figuring this out, none of that "I am the Dr and you need to do what I say" crap.

He said my due date would be 1/30, but because my cycles are more like 30 days, that 2/1 is a good bet. Which is what I originally calculated.

We were going over my history and putting in my alcohol consumption and I lamented I missed my glass of wine, and he looked at me said said, "Well, if you live in many European countries you can have a 1/2 to one glass of wine a day with a meal," and then made a comment about how he can't really come out and advise me to do that in THIS country. Which I thought was kind of an amusing way to put it.
