With both of my labors the placenta came out quite quickly on its own, but with my first I was bleeding a fair amount. They started talking about cauterization and I freaked on them, my midwife suggested I get up and urinate because if the bladder is full it can somehow keep the bleeding going (sorry, it's been 9 years and don't remember details), so I did urinate and the bleeding slowed way down right afterward and I avoided any interventions.

That actually makes sense??? They cathed my friend and she stopped
bleeding (of course by that point she had had LOTS of interventions so who knows what actually was responsible!) and she had a very full bladder. I remember from our childbirth classes that you are supposed to pee every hour? during labor...I wonder if this actively helps prevent bleeding...
