Im putting together my ipod for labor and I just Love Kirshna Das Live Here on Earth. Its got great energy to it and nice rhythm that I think will help keep my mind focused on the job at hand and not freaking out. What will you ladies be hearing as you birth your babies?

Thank you for reminding me to get my list together.

Here are some bands/musicians that I'll be picking and choosing some songs from off the top of my head: silverchair, Lovedrug, Sia, Tori Amos, Sigur Ros, The Dissociatives, Eskimo Joe, Red Jezebel, and a bunch of others I'm sure...

Basically, just a big mix. And a wide range of sounds (since most of those have completely different styles from song to song, album to album)... I figure I'll just have to figure out a hand signal to let someone know to skip a song and perhaps a hand signal to let them know to delete the song off the playlist. Haha. I honestly don't know what kind of music I'll want and most of the music that "sucks me in" best often has some negative associations... so I don't know if those associations will bother me during the birth or not. So I'm ready for the skip button to be worn out by the end of it.

I made a birth mix for my son's birth and when the time came I wanted none of it. I just wanted quiet to be able to focus. I'm hoping for a little bit of a different environment this time around. I like your Krishna Das idea. And whether I use it or not I will probably prep a little something.

I will definitely be including some Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, and Mamas and Papas on my birth mix.

Smeep - yes to Sigur Ros!!

I have a mix that I listened to when DS was born and I loved it. I remember remarking to the midwives between pushes about liking a certain song. I have since lost my copy and have to get another one from our midwives. Thanks for the reminder to call our old clinic!!

It had some Beatles, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Sinead O'Connor, The Be Good Tanyas, Adham Shaik etc. I think I might add Jack Johnson and Seu Jorge and India Irie.

I forgot! YES, to Radiohead! I also love Sinead O'Connor and India Arie but they don't "grab" me in a way that I think would really help during labour. And of course I love the Beatles but they don't grab me either. And they're a HUGE no no for the birth... this baby's "father" loves the Beatles and I heard soooo much of them while we lived together, so I can't listen to them at all right now - I definitely don't need reminders of him during the birth!

Im a big country girl so Ill be listening to country if I listen to anything. I might upload some of the CDs I have from back when I danced a lot but I don't know, its been a LONG time since I listened to them. They do relax me though, I love the music DH doesn't. I will probably have some church music on there as well just in case I want to listen to that. I just have to finish it and upload the songs to my IPOD. Oh and get a new IPOD dock, mine ended up being used as as "submarine" by my daughters.

I need a new iPod. Mine was sitting in the dock and met its demise. My friend's 2-year-old knocked a drink over and the dock just sucked up the water and it went right into my iPod. I would never have thought it would do that, but it did. Weird, eh?

i also like to have things really quiet when in labor, so no music for labor for me. but last time, 4 days past my "dd"- i had dh make the famous "labor inducing" eggplant parmesan and i put on old disco records and danced like fire for two or so hours. i just recently found that my dh made a short movie of me on the camera- i was so happy to find it (though i have to say my memory of dancing "like fire" is shown to be a little off- what a belly!). it was such a great night....and the dancing/parm. combo worked!

i don't have my records here, but i have some ideas lined up if i need them. beware retirement village! lol.

Oh, good idea, I have to look into what I might want and make a playlist on the iPod! I hadn't even thought about that.

I just wrote up to bring the little portable docking station to the hospital if I'm not in the mood for headset. (And really, headset is the clue for people to leave me alone anyway, since then I'm probably listening to HypnoBabies. But this way I could even put that on the docking if I feel like it.)

Umm, a little of everything.  I listened to a lot of comedy country last time - you should have seen my Doula's face when Brad Paisley's "I'm going to miss her" came on.

By the end I didn't care what was playing though, so there was none.
