Yesterday I was feeling pretty sad that it was time to redo my bloodwork and feeling like baby would never come. I decided to put off my bloodwork until today. Dh and I stayed up watching Mad Men and had just turned out the light to go to bed when I had my first real contraction at 11:30 pm. I had another one at 11:39 and knew it was go time.
We got up and finished filling the pool, called the midwives and our child care helper. Everyone arrived around midnight. We woke the other kids. The midwives were awesome. They just let me do my thing and spent most of their time setting up. Never did any vaginal checks at all.
I was able to get in the water and it was instant relief. Pushed for 14 min and our baby boy arrived at 1:48 am this morning. He was so relaxed and chilled out, other than a case of the hiccups as he was born. He went right back to sleep on my chest and only woke up to look around after about 15 minutes and then he was super calm and happy. Apgars 9 and 9. I couldn't have asked for a more amazing last birth experience and he was my biggest baby at 8 Lbs 5 oz.
To top it all off, the heavens themselves welcomed him today with a beautiful (and rare for this area/time of year) snow fall.

Beautiful birth story and a beautiful boy! (Love the birthbead necklace, too)
What a great story! I am SO glad you also missed that re-do of bloodwork (I missed mine by a day too!) Such an empowering birth for such a trying set of circumstances there at the end! :)
