I was 19w2d on Wednesday and my water broke. We went to the hospital and was told there is absolutely no hope and we had no choice but to get a Dilation & Evacuation or Induce Labor. Our insurance will cover neither due to the laws in Ohio. We have opted to wait it out and hope to make it to at least 24 weeks. The NICU in our city is in the top 5 in the country. We know the risks are high and the chance of a poor outcome is more likely than not, but we think letting nature take it's course is the best choice to make. Two ultrasounds have confirmed that although I'm still leaking fluid the levels have remained normal, which is a very good sign. I have not gone into labor or had any contractions. As long as I do not get an infection we may make it to a point that the baby can survive. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!

I know it's totally different but my water broke (39 weeks, totally different) but my labor took FOREVER to start, so they "infused" saline into my uterus to plump things back up - it saved my daughter! The doctor said it's not a regular thing, he just thought he'd try it, and if it didn't work, c-section. It totally worked and I was able to have a vaginal delivery.

Maybe you could get a cerclage and some infusions?? I'm sure they've thought of it, but you never know....

Mama to DS T (10/11/2004) and DD M (09/03/09) and cookin' up baby #3 due late March/early April 2010!

Oh sweetie. Can it not heal? I had a rupture early on (9 weeks?) due to my SCH and could SMELL the amniotic fluid, but it healed in a week.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. We will hold you in our prayers.

This is a tree on fire with love, but it's still scary since most people think love only looks like one thing instead of the whole world. *

DDCC - I too have heard that a leak can seal itself. Have the docs not offered any other options about extra fluid to plump it up as another poster suggested, and lots of bedrest/fluids?
I pray for the best possible outcome mama!

Oh Mama....I'm thinking about you.

Hopefully some words of encouragement: my friend's sister had her water break at 23 weeks but without contractions or any sign of labor. With bed rest she lasted until 29 or 30 weeks when contractions started which they weren't able to stop. Her daughter was delivered by c-section and is a perfectly normal 22 month old (she was in the NICU for a while).

You're in my prayers.

Camille~
Mama to F (3/09) and S (3/11); and never forgetting my babe gone too soon angel1.gif(4/10).
