I'm doing my GTT on January 13th.  Doesn't that seem early?  I'll be 24 weeks then.  My OB is already asking me to do 2 week apointments too.  (I wouldn't this last time, because of obligations, but I guess I will after this.)  I just can't believe I'm that far along!  I'm quite sure that my previous OB and midwife did not monitor me so frequently so soon.  It seems like I didn't go in biweekly until the last month and weekly only after 40 weeks.

As for the GTT debate.  I just do it because I fight so much other stuff, and have a history of very large babies.  Knock wood, I've never failed the GTT.

Hmmm, I think I had it at 28 weeks with my first so it doesn't seem toooooo early.  I think it will be nice for you to rule out GD if you have large babies that way no one will be freaking out at the birth about it.  I wasn't going to do it last time but then I gained between 8 and 12 lbs per month for a couple months strait and decided to do it.  I don't know what I am doing this time. I actually kind of like glucola though so there isn't the gag concern even though my gag reflex is still elevated.

Good luck with the test!!!!

I've done the test at 28 weeks with both of my prior pregnancies but my first daughter was a week late and only 6.5 lbs and DD2 was only 7.5 lbs.  Maybe with a history of large babies they do it a month earlier??? I don't go to twice monthly appts until about 32 weeks and then weekly at 36 weeks.  I went in for my 18 week checkup and she said to come back in 4-6 weeks.  I'm guessing I'll go back in 4 weeks after that as it will be 28 weeks and then my GTT.

I always pass the GD test, but they still freak at birth and test the infant.  They even gave my 2nd a bottle of whatever it is they give (sugar water?)!!!  It didn't ruin our nursing relationship though--he nursed until almost 4 yrs old.  I watched carefully with my third and even though she took the longest to pass their tests, I didn't allow them to give her anything.  I knew I had some milk (since I was still nursing #2) although temporarily it was slow and very much colostrum, so I insisted she just keep nursing and they just keep testing.

I think 24-28 weeks is about normal. I have not done it with any of my pregnancies. This time my mw wants to have me check my fasting blood sugars and postprandials sugars a few time just to check. I am OK with that.... seems like a fair compromise...

I just found out today that I passed my three hour (this is #3, I always fail the 1 hour and always pass the 3 hour.)  They did mine early because #2 was almost 10lbs.  No issues with blood sugar at birth though, just a big baby!

I did make them promise me that they wouldn't try and make me retake it at 34 weeks.  My MFM said that we would do post-prandial if needed.
