Finally getting on to say that our baby girl was born Friday evening! 8 lbs 14 oz. We are here at the cottage we rented for the birth and enjoying our first days together and getting the hang of breastfeeding. She is a snacker. Sigh. My nipples would prefer a gulp-a-ton-and-then-take-a-long-breaker :P
We ended up driving to the cottage in the wee hours of Friday morning - I had gone to bed with some irregular and slightly ouchy contractions and tried taking a Gravol at bedtime to ward them off till morning, but it didn't help...by 2:30 they were hurting enough that I figured we had better in the car then or else the trip could be extremely unpleasant. We arrived at the cottage at 4:40 AM and within an hour or so, contractions petered out to almost nothing. Spent the morning napping, by late morning I was back to the odd contraction here and there, and then my parents arrived with our boys around 2:00/2:30 and things started to pick back up again. They headed out for supper at 4:45 and we were on the phone with the midwife almost right away - just as they were getting ready to leave, things seemed to get more intense and I snapped at DH a couple of times (good sign I was in more pain! :P). She checked me at 6 pm and i was 4cm and stretchy. Got in the tub at 6:20 and the contractions spaced out for a while to 10 min apart, but they got very intense...by 7:30 the midwife was talking to me about getting out (small tub, no room for birthing!) and heading to the bed. I got out at 7:38 and my water broke spontaneusly just before I stood up from the tub...baby was out at 7:57. We were kinda shocked how fast it went. I had been feeling pushy while still in the tub and had a strong urge to push once my water broke, but I wasn't fully dilated until the very last minute, the midwife was pushing a lip of cervix out of the way (she was being extra careful because I had that prolapse back around 14 weeks pregnant). the midwife said the baby was out within 2 minutes of the lip being fully out of the way. Definitely my fastest labour by far, and I have to say, I prefer the 6ish hour version to the 12ish hour version :P
Congratulations, Bluepetals!! Look at what a sweet girl she is!! :D Welcome Aibhlinn!! So, just so I'm saying that right, is it pronounced Ave-leen? I love the Irish names! Aisling is one of my favorites. So happy you had a quick labor, and had her where you wanted. I will fully endorse the 6 hour versions! Maybe she'll start gulping with a growth spurt! :)
It's such a relief to finally trust yourself.
She's gorgeous!! Congratulations to you and welcome to little Aibhlinn! Enjoy your babymoon <3
